puddingwrestler Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 (edited) Hello chaps! I'm new here having just discovered the forum and thought I should show some of the things I have built. I've been building models off and on since the late 1990s (when I was a teen), and got back into things fairly seriously in '07, building mostly Sci Fi stuff. I've always built a lot of cars though, and I always come back to custom car building. I find the painting stage a bit daunting and often my attention span can't handle the waiting, so things do not always get finished... Anyway, here are some things I've made: This is Brunhilde, a BMW 7 series I picked up at an opshop (really!). She's a simple build, with custom wheels and not much else. I've always wanted to own a car called Brunhilde, and since I can't afford a beemer or merc in real life, I had to build one. This is the personal ride of The Red Nutter, a sort of post-apocalyptic road going version of the red baron. It was made fairly roughly as part of a themed build on the StarShip Modeler forum from a toy Ferrari racer I found at an opshop (seeing a patter here?)And no, I have no idea how the bombs work either. This here is a hover car I made when my wargames club where thinking about testing out the necromunda vehicle rules. It started out as a 1/32 countach. It's not really the right size for 28mm wargames, but who cares? This here is a jet bike I knocked up rather quickly... Edited June 13, 2010 by puddingwrestler
puddingwrestler Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 (edited) This is basically the second car kit I ever built. The first was a Tamiya Morgan 4/4 built stock. This is actually the second time I've built this car. It was fairly poorly built the first time cause I was young and foolish. Now that I am older and foolish, I decided to rebuild it with my modern skills. There's a lot of scratch building here. I was particularly happy with the boot panel. Not the copy of 'CarWars' in the back seat This netted me the 'Best Auto' whiffy (the What-If Modeler's forum annual grand awards - not many cars on that forum ) It's a PAH Small Car - Russia's answer to the mini. It was reverse engineered by the Minsk Tractor Collective using a Britihs Mini shot down in Soviet air space and biult by unwed teenage mothers. Then the factory sort of exploded and there was only one survivor. Whic broke down shortly there after. Anyway, it's a Tamiya kit and the result of a 'Sovietize It' group build on What-If modelers. This is a hover street rod I made using an AMT 34 ford and some cast 1/32 jet engines. I flocked the interior with model railway static grass Again from a What-If modelers GB, this is the Tortwagen Gulf GTI amphibious hot hatch. It comes from the fictional country of San Torta, a tiny island nation off the coast of south america where any trip involves more sea than road. This is the first time I seriously flocked an interior and used Bare Metal Foil. Interior and wheels are from a 1/36 or so toy Nissan Skyline GT-R. Well, that's about it for car models, or atleast roughly speaking car models (I do have a few SF kit thrashes based on car kits as well). I'm in a bit of a car building mood at the moment, so there'll be a few things in the 'on the workbench' section as well. Owen in Gippsland; Self appointed lunatic to the gentry. puddingwrestler Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Sorry things got a bit messy there, I was a bit confused by the two 'add reply' buttons and I think I got things rather wrong. At one point part two was appearing about part one, and part one still looks like a quote or something... I have to get used to teh way this forum works I geuss.
RodneyBad Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 WOW!! those are some Crazy builds. Very cool stuff tho. Neat work and a good stretch of the Imagination
slant6 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 (edited) You've given me some ideas for my box of "spare parts". Now I know what to do with all those spare (the ones the dog ate) bodies! Edited June 13, 2010 by slant6
george 53 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 That Morgan4/4 looks an AWFUL lot like a Monogram 70 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454. Did the japs copy one of ours an claim it was theirs? Wouldn't be the first time!
Raul_Perez Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Cool Sci-Fi stuff!! I also build Sci-Fi stuff, some straight from the box and some altered SF3D kits. Thanks for sharing,
puddingwrestler Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 That Morgan4/4 looks an AWFUL lot like a Monogram 70 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454. Did the japs copy one of ours an claim it was theirs? Wouldn't be the first time! It was a translation error. They put it through Google Translate, and who was to know that in Japanese 'Morgan' translates as 'American Big Block?' Other cars in the series include the Ford 'Translate Server Error'.
puddingwrestler Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Here are some photos of my display cabinet. Not everything I have built fits in there, but just about all my cars are in it anyway. Note: The Morris Minor and Merc Custom are both dicasts bought as is. I keep intending to do something with the morris, but never get round to it. It's been re-organised a bit since these photos. I've grouped the models a bit better and stuck posters proclaiming what is on each shelf onto the back wall.
The Modeling Hermit Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I do love sci-fi, and these would fit right into dome books I've read. Cool builds.
Greg Cullinan Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 You have some cool and interesting builds. It's a pleasure to see, especially since it's something I haven't encountered before. I reallly dig the Red Baron and the 34. Tell me more about this pudding wrastling though
puddingwrestler Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Pudding wrestling is basically just a very violent and full-contact way of eating dessert. I've had the name for years; I used to be a really big dessert fan, but I've cut back a little recently.
