MonoPed Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 (edited) Bob Downie's recent 250TR build got me looking at my kit again. The decal sheet in the kit has three sets of numbers, 14, 12, and 102, but no instructions as to what cars and races these are supposed to represent. The #14 on the roundels appear to be for the '58 Sebring winner, but that car was RHD. Any ideas for the other sets of numbers? Edited June 21, 2010 by MonoPed
droogie Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 (edited) No. 14 1958 Sebring winner Hill/Collins No. 14 1958 Le Mans winner Hill/Gendebien (most likely the decals are for the Le Mans car, because, as you stated, the Sebring car was RHD) No. 102 1958 Targa Florio 3rd place Hawthorn/Von Trips No. 12 1958 Nurburgring 10th place Kochert/Bauer (Bauer was killed at this race and in this car, when, not realizing he had taken the checkered flag, raced on and crashed, later dying from his injuries.) Junkman Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Do you also know the colours these cars were painted?
CAL Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Far as I can tell #14 Sebring Red #14 LeMans B&W photo only Red likely. #102 also likely Red. #12 don't know. Most of these were crashed or rebodied by the factory or modified for other events. Only a handful of the original still even exist.
ScaleCentral Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The LeMans winner from 1958 was not a pontoon. It was a flat sided version very similar to the pontoon. You can make it with the kit but it takes a lot of work. The Sebring winner was RHD, so I'm not sure what Hasegawa was thinking. Nic

Nobody would buy a RHD. Nobody would buy strickly street version. So they made a bunch of compromises

So they made a bunch of compromises Lol, I bought a RHD transkit just so I can do the Sebring winner. I guess I'm the oddball. If I can ever get my 1964 Dodge done, look for me to start a Ferrari. I am a Porsche and Ferrari fan and can't even strike up a conversation with the people I run into.
