stewart Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 This is a "transplanted" WIP from the Scale Auto forums. I decided to expand my horizons a little and start posting a little bit on this forum. I have heard good things about it and wanted to see how it is different from the other, so here goes. About 8 months ago, I ran into the InsideLine videos of the Fast and Furious Fuel heist trucks and really wanted to build them (believe it or not, I have never seen the movie). They are both almost done now and if you want to see the complete WIP, I copied the most important parts to the pickups section of the forum. Here are what I have so far. 89 crew cab flat bed Engine Interior Body 67 diesel flat bed Body Engine Interior Look for the rest in the Pickups, SUVs and Non-Commercial trucks section of the forum. Railfreak78 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Man, Those are nice! I wanted to do both of those myself. I have everything to do older truck minus the correct grille. Mines a 70-72. I love that black one.
Romell R Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Welcome to the forum Stewart I was wondering how these were comming I was following them on the other forum but I decieded to leave that place. stewart Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 Not remember you? How could I forget you. My favorite of your builds was the F-450 you did a while back. That is really good. You have some amazing skills as a builder. I am trying to shore mine up. Glad to make your acquaintance. STewart
stewart Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 Railfreak, the full thread is under the pickups section and tells how I did everything. I too started with the 70-72 and got the 67 grille from modelhaus. However, it does not fit. After worrying over it for many months, I saw a build of a 67 pickup on another forum and asked the guy where the truck came from. It turns out the RMR resins does these trucks, (and a lot of other really nice resin subjects) so I got one and replaced the cab. It worked out really great.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Hey Stewart! I been watching your builds over on the other site, I don't post over there anymore to offen or any. But I am somewhat a lurker though over there as I do drop by time to time. I been watching as you been working on these trucks. I must say your doing very very good so far and I hope you hing around here and keep posting photos of the builds as you build them. Keep up the good work bud.
stewart Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 I am completing the rear suspension and then this truck will be basically done. I assembled PE disc brakes and wired them. I am not quite sure but I think the wheels might be a little small??? Now I have the hard part of assembling the rear suspension. I made all the measurements and things, now I just have to hope it all lines up. STewart
Patrick2005 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I saw the movie and a short video on the cars. The black dual axle could actually smoke both axles in a burnout. And they built a Buick GNX with the engine in the trunk and the rear axle driving the front wheels so they could make it look like it was driving incredibly fast in reverse.

I have done a lot of research on the cars because I plan on building most of the american ones. They basically took the body of a T-type buick and flipped it on the chassis so that it could be driven real fast in reverse. I have the hammer road runner started. I have to get back to it but I have a couple other projects in the way . I am building it with a sonoramic 383 with twin pro chargers I got from Shucky. STewart
stewart Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) I have started final assembly of the chassis. I placed the front suspension setup in. It is from a Saleen Speedster. I might have to lower it a little bit though. I am running into some "fit" issues. I have the rear axle, and front suspension in place and the chassis does not sit level. But I found out that the back half of my frame is not level so that is a fairly easy fix. I think I am going to shorten the back half too as it looks slightly long. Also, I need to lower the middle axle as the rear wheels dont touch the ground when it is in place. I am not happy with the fit of the cab either. I need to lower the nose but the air cleaners are too tall. So I will probably shorten the manifold. Here are some pics. I just mocked up the rear deck.
