bigmikevee Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Hey Gang, Want to make a slammer, kit does not have side windows, was just going to use some clear plastic from some packaging, going to paint it with acrylic flat black, so far so good. Now, do I paint the plastic on the inside or outside, would you use gloss or flat, is there a better material to use (Evergreen?) or something else to try. You folks always have the coolest ideas, what do you use on your slammers? As always, thank you so much for reading and responding! Mike
randx0 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 if your doing a slammer with no interior detail you can use regular sheet styrene and gloss black on the outside. or if you want the clear plastic flat black on the inside will work just fine.

Yep, pretty much like Randy said, Mike. The only thing I would suggest differently is only use clear plastic and only paint on the inside of the new "window". That way, it still will look like glass on the outside and the paint on the inside if it will replicate really dark tint. If you would do the regular sheet styrene and gloss black on the outside, it would just look like a body painted gloss black, you would not get the look of a window you would from the clear plastic. Also, if you would brush paint the windows, painting the inside of the clear plastic will hide any brush strokes in the paint, and it will have a smooth, glossy finish no matter what type of paint you use.
randx0 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 just to clarify using regular plastic painted gloss black may just be more accessible and easier to glue.
LoneWolf15 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Tape off the outside of the windshield and rear window , apply several light coats of flat black spray to the inside of both pieces. As for the side glass, Plastruct or any clear acetate will work just fine , Again , cut the pieces to size and apply the flat black spray to the inside portion . Glue the windows in with a glue that has a good capillary action . Do not use super glue ! As for using regular plastic , Sorry , really won't be realistic in appearance. Donn Yost
