I assume the engine should be a non-metallic dark blue, correct? If someone has a real close match in model paint, please let me know.

I've never seen a 1:1 transmission assembly from one of these beasts (Front wheel drive). Would they be a raw aluminum? Another metal? Painted?

TIA for all helpful posts.

Engines are dark blue and the transmissions were unpainted.

Like Tom says, dark blue. Testors "Blue Angles blue" would be really close.

BTW, if you'r building that '70 Eldo from the box ,,, that's an Olds engine in there, not a Caddy. They never tooled up the Caddy specific parts, just used the Olds parts carried over every year from the '66 Toronado.

Ken Kitchen [Kitchen Table Resins] has the Caddy 472/500 engines though.

I had forgotten all about that. Now I'm doubly glad I asked. I wonder if GM got the idea of swapping other divisions' engines from JoHan... B)

Thanks for the Blue Angel blue and Kitchen Table Resins tips!

Monty, post up pictures of the build. I've always loved these cars and will probably try to make a '67 or '68 if I can find an old kit. Having worked at a Cadillac dealer in the mid-80's, I'd really love to see the engine & trans detail (even with the Olds engine).

Honestly, it may be awhile before this really gets rolling. I'm nerdy enough to want to use a "real" Cadillac engine in there, but being currently unemployed, I may have to try and see if I can do some trading with someone for the one Kitchen Table Resins offers. OTOH, I guess I can always paint the body and work on the other assemblies now & complete the engine when I find one.

I agree with you on the '67s. I think they had the sharpest design of all the Eldorados. My "Boyds paint" post is based on approximating these colors I found via a Google search. Black really seems to work too.

I wish you all the best in finding a '67 or '68 at a reasonable cost!

May I suggest the Auto Color Library if you're looking for the factory colors? Growing up I had a neighbor with a '67 in Marina Blue with a black interior & vinyl top. It was gorgeous! It had the older 429 which is probably in a few JoHan kits.
