Hawk312 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I was lucky enough to score the 1/8 scale `78 Corvette kit. My desire was to build the pace car version that they have shown on the box. For those of you who haven`t seen on these cars yet, here is what they look like: To my dismay, only the letters and not the strips are included in the decal sheet. I was planning to try to tape off the line between the silver and the black, and the red pinstripe on the silver. But just looking at the area around the fender, it looks like it is going to be tricky to mask off and get it *PERFECT*. I think this will be even more difficult than the `67 vette stinger. I know the basics (flexible masking tape, clear coat before color to prevent bleeding, etc.), but does anyone have any tips on getting those lines absolutely perfect? I just get the feeling it will be really noticeable if I am just the slightest bit off. Thanks.
highway Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I've seen pinstriping tape at my LHS for RC cars, some of that might work for you. I find it strange, unless it's just a matter of the scale of the kit, that it doesn't have the stripe as decals. I have the 1/24 scale kit, and I'm pretty sure it has the stripes as well as some silver on each side to hide the two tone paint split. If you can print your own decals, let me know if you want me to scan my decals so you might try to resize them to fit the 1/8 scale.
Dragline Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 If it's a 1/8th scale model and the real car takes a 1/2" stripe, 1/16" stipers tape would be perfectly to scale. It will bend perfectly around those fenders for certain. Bob
MikeMc Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 For 1/8 the tape will work fine. If you want to paint them, use these..... Burnish well and they work great
Hawk312 Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 Thanks for all the tips. I am wondering if striping tape is the way to go? Seems like it will be more forgiving then painting. Where do I get that stuff?
