Mercman Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Just returned from the LHS with this in hand. Cost was $34.95 plus tax. Upon first inspection this is a very nicely done kit. Round 2/Polar Lights has done a nice job on this one. There is no flash to be trimmed, the casting's are crisp, and the instructions are done well. Also a battery box, and LED light are included with it. The window graphics are printed on clear acetate, and it is molded in 2 shades of gray. Also tips on detailing the kit to set the scene are included. Don't forget though this one is 1/87th scale. Lots of possibilities for the display of this one. IMHO highly recommended kit to have. should be starting this one soon.
george 53 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 At 1/87th scale wat kinda cars would go with it? Those little Micro Machines? Interesting subject though, to say the least!
Brett Barrow Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 At 1/87th scale wat kinda cars would go with it? Those little Micro Machines? Interesting subject though, to say the least! There's tons of cars to go with it, probably more than even 24/25th - 1/87th is good ol' HO train scale!
Mercman Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Here's a pic of the Bate's Motel from Universal Studios. The office, and Norman. George here's a 59 Ford in Ho scale.
george 53 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 The little Ford is cool, Merc! Too bad they don't make as many cool models in 25th as they do in HO scale!!!!
Jim Gibbons Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Looks like a cool kit. In the original movie, Janet Leigh drove a '57 Ford. I believe it was a Custom 300 4DR.
Mercman Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 This is for Dave, and whoever may want to tackle this one. I Googled the Bates Motel, and got these. Good color reference and of course Momma More here at the link. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/HO%20buildings/Bates%20Mansion/Psycho%20Ref%20pics/
impcon Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Janet Leigh... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. '57 Ford..Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. Yeah, I remeber the '57 Ford and Miss Leigh was to say the least, gorgeous! Now about that white '59 Ford in the photo... darned thing sure does look good!
JamesW Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I remember touring the Universal lot at least 15 years ago. Seeing the Bates mansion in person at that age was one of the coolest things to me. Along with seeing all of the other things I had seen in the movies I thought it was so cool. I always wanted to go back, but have yet to make it.
Mercman Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 Got it sub-assembled last weekend, hoped to get it in primer, but the weather didn't co-operate.
dannyi Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 ....looks good Mercman, what colors are you planning on using?
Mercman Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 Danny going to do it in a washed out white, or grey, with a black wash. Going for the old creepy worn look. Still haven't decided yet on how to display it. Should I do it like the movie, or go another direction. I have a few ideas either way.

Mercman Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 The 40 Fords are for the other projects I got going on. But I'll figure out something.
slant6 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I saw this kit the other day and wanted so bad to buy it, but they wanted $60 for it. Ill be watching this one.
Brett Barrow Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I saw this kit the other day and wanted so bad to buy it, but they wanted $60 for it. Ill be watching this one. That's outrageous! SRP for this kit is $32.95, $60 is ridiculous!
ahendricks Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) I've built this kit and was thinking of scratch-building the Bates Motel to go along with it. If the Bates Motel was available as a kit would you be interested in it? I'm curious, because after I finished this kit, my wife said, "Now you need the motel to go with it"... Let me know what you think. Thanks, Andrew Edited April 26, 2011 by ahendricks
