The Modeling Hermit Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 This probably belongs someplace else, but since it's aimed at truckers, I've chosen to place it here. Eighteen Wheels North To Alaska-a history of trucking in Alaska by Cliff Bishop Publishing Consultants ISBN # 978-59433-110-7 copyright 2009 $19.95 Ice road trucking has come under the limelight in the last few years. This is a history of the early years of trucking in Alaska. Cliff gives an excellent account of what it was like to blaze trails where nobody had ever driven before. He informs of the struggles of trucking at 70 below zero, and the problems of trucking with a state government that blesses the railroad while making things near impossible for the truckers. In this book, you'll find bears, wolves, avalanches, hunting, fishing, but mostly some great trucking stories with lots of black and white pictures. If you want to know what it was like to drive in the early years of North Country trucking, then you'll not want to miss this one.
