Len Woodruff Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) I am looking for the best 454 for a Vette project. The only one I know is the 70 AMT Baldwin kit. Has anyone check the deck height on thi vs the 427 that is in the Revell 67 Vette? I checked the factory specs for deck height an they are both 9.8" so that would mean externally they should be identical. Edited September 6, 2010 by Len Woodruff
comp1839 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 len, you are correct as far as the 1:1 specs go. 396, 402, 427 and 454 are all 9.8" decks. the 427 truck block is 10.3".
mikemodeler Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 What about the L-88 engine from the '68 Vette by Revell? The '69 Yenko Camaro? I think any big block will do fine, it probably comes down to which one has the best accessories you are trying to replicate.
Modellpularn Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) Yes they all look the same, but some of the Revell kits' valve covers are wrong. It's the '68-'69 Corvette kits, they have 8 bolts.... On the real engine, you have 7 bolts around the valve cover. And the side with 4 bolts ALWAYS faces the exhaust side. Len Woodruff Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks so much for everyone's reply. That confirms what I needed to know.
