Guest old man Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 hey guy's i am building a 70 camaro the head light's are chrome what is the best way to make them look more realistic old man
envious8420 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 a light black wash and a coat or two of future.
Jim Gibbons Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I saw a model on another board where the builder would add some white acrylic to clear acrylic to paint the headlights and parking lights. He added a bit more white into the clear for the parking lights to make them look more opaque. I thought the effect was pretty convincing.
sjordan2 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) I've seen a number of suggestions on this and other forums • Drill out the headlights and replace with clear convex "googly eye" lenses from sewing crafts section, (need to add a chrome bucket behind the lens); or find a source for clear lenses from MV Products, normally found in the railroad section of hobby stores or online. • Detail Master has 1/24-25 lenses http://www.detailmaster.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=detailmaster&Category_Code=MV • Coat the chrome lens with something like Krystal Klear to reduce the ridges on the surface, then find a picture of a headlight that looks right, scale it properly, and print out on decal paper. I know there are guys here who probably have better sources for aftermarket headlights. I saw an excellent one posted here not too long ago but can't remember where it was.
