Brutalform Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I just got a can of Alclad II spray chrome paint. First time using it. It says on the directions, to use a water based black paint for the base. If I used any other black besides a water based, would it work out ok? I know I can test it on a scrap piece of styrene, with other black sprays I have, but, I don't want the paint ruin the project, like a week or so after its been sprayed. Thanks. Tom
AzTom Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 The only Spray can of Alcad I've seen is for clear Lexan RC bodies. You spray the chromre on the inside and then spray the black base over the chrome. It will not give good results spraying over a black base like the regular alclad chrome does. AzTom
Brutalform Posted September 28, 2010 Author Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is for Lexan. I test sprayed it on a scrap piece with no black base, and it looks good. I got it for next to nothing. Gonna try it with the base to see what it looks like. Maybe it will do, until I spring for an air brush. Edited September 28, 2010 by Brutalform
Greg Cullinan Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I have a few cans of the Alclad Chrome spray,I've spraysd it over Dupli Color gloss black, Krylon gloss black and Testors gloss black without any troubles. Sorry I don't know the difference in the types of the base I have used but hoped this would help.
Brutalform Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks Greg...like I said, I tried it on a scrap piece and it looks good. Did not get a chance with a base yet. Only thing is, it gets blemished when you touch it after its dry, when not sealed.
Greg Cullinan Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I've cleared it as well with Dupli Color, should have mentioned that. I haven't attempted polishing it though as the results have been good out of the can. And a little bit goes a long way.
