Ryan S. Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 If Future is used as a clear coat over white paint, will it yellow over time like some other clears are known to do or does it stay closer to true clear? Thanks.

Thanks. The whole story on Future can be found here: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html A quote from the text: There have been a few reports by modelers that yellowing has occured with all white finishes. I have investigated several of these reports of yellowing and have found in each and every one that it was the underlying paint that had yellowed and not the Future. White paint contains a resin pigment that will yellow under long-term exposure to direct sunlight and there is no clear coat that I am aware of that will prevent this occurrence.
Ryan S. Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks Harry. I've got that link bookmarked, but totally forgot about it. But the quote from the text answers my question. Thanks!
roadhawg Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Lee, I totally suspect that the simple Green you added is what caused your yellowing. I have an airplane model that is white and was clearcoated with Future in the 90s, and has not yellowed at all, nor has any of the clear canopies I've used it on. The basic rule of thumb I've always heard is if the clear you plan on using has any kind of tint to it at all, it WILL eventually turn. The good news is, as Mark states up there, Future is easy to strip...just wash it off with some windex. I seriously doubt the Future itself was bad...I've never seen that happen. My last bottle lasted like 8 years! Lol!
