jasoncamaro
Hi Guys i want to build my 1/12 57 Chev into a Pro Mod and i was wondering if i could get away with using 1/16th parts as I'm not sure about the scale difference and i know that some of you guys will be able to help Thanks Jason
comp1839
yes. 1/16 scale parts will look too small on a 1/12 car. there is a 25% difference in size.....unless of course you're building zingers.
jasoncamaro
Thanks Dave i knew there would be a difference but man i didn't realise it was that much, do you know of any places that sell 1/12 parts other than comp resins
comp1839
i built a couple 1/12 cars but, like my 1/8 stuff, i made all my parts. essentially just used the bodies. here's my photobucket. maybe you'll see something that inspires you. http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff310/comp1839/ Edited October 8, 2010 by comp1839
sjordan2
You can also keep checking on eBay to see what's available. Often, someone will part out a kit. Here's a bookmark I use for 1/12 kits and parts: http://toys.shop.ebay.com/Automotive-/2580/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=2&_nkw=1%2F12&_trkparms=65%253A10%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_ipg=&_pcats=1188%2C220&_sop=10&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=
Greg Myers
Aren't we pretty well stuck with the three kits Revell did , Corvett, '57 Chevy and the Camaro, as far as 1/12th goes ? Even so there was quite a selection of hot rod parts between the three kits.

Lots of F1 and motorcycles, Mustang, supercharged Bentley, Lola, Caterham, Porsche 911 Turbo, Trumpeter Ford GT40, Lancia Stratos, Ferrari Testarossa, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach, 1937 Cord, Mercedes 450 SL & SLC, Lotus Europa, original Mini Cooper, Datsun 240Z, Big Red Baron, a few rare and hideously expensive kits, plus the horrendous Mercedes Gullwing and Ferrari 275 GTB kits. And others.

comp1839
as far as i know, in 1/12 scale. if you are going to try to build an even marginally accurrate present day pro mod car. you will need to hone your scratch building skills. how accurrate you want the car to be, will determine how much "honing" you will need to do. i am going to be starting a 1/8 pro mod car in the very near future. i plan on this car taking at least 1 year to build. totally scratch built cars are slow and tedious builds but, the end results and the personal satisfaction of completing a build like this, are WORTH EVERY SECOND.
