vaughn Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 My first 1/16th build. The seats are of kids(goat) leather as are the shock covers. The door panels and floor are brushed leather and wonder cloth. The bead(about 6') on the seats and door panels are phone wire and will probably be dulled out,I think? The bench seat has 15 cut pieces and the fronts about 9. Never intended the build to resemble the Revel kit but my leather on hand sorta dictated that. Same leathers will be used thruout where needed. The top will be some sort of other material. Motor has been wired and BMF will be used thruout. Working on the wood grain for the dash and door panels. This is a whole new ball game but enjoyable. Hope to show more later on.
sjordan2 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 What are you doing with the wood grain? I would suggest replacing the kit dash and door wood to get rid of the overly textured plastic pieces, and use styrene or other material to replace them with decals of actual wood (French Walnut was usually the wood of choice by Rolls coachbuilders of the day). The finish would be very smooth and heavily lacquered.

Was planning on a burl type wood look.

The thing is, the kit has a very pronounced, molded-in wood grain, which is very unrealistic. You wouldn't want any visible texture. Here's the car the kit is based on; take a look at the wood and you'll see that it's as smooth and shiny as glass, like most other Phantom IIs, regardless of the type of wood (and burled would be very nice): http://www.thesandiegocollection.com/cgi-bin/showroom/detail.cgi?id=2128 Edited October 10, 2010 by sjordan2

My kit dash does have a texture to it but really not all that pronounced. I understand the smooth and laquer type finish...I want that and I will have that. One thing about the kit dash area is it does not have the actual dash area (between the windshield and where the gauge panel starts)..just your basic panel with gauges. Anyway..thanks for lookin and I am all ears. Whats up with you?
ewaskew Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 The details are nice and the build is looking good. What did you glue the leather with?
