Lownslow Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 its happened both time i sanded to the prime and both times the exact same result the paint is hok with regular laquer the primer is nason 2 part primer. i sprayed the body twice and didnt see the reaction anywhere else but that very same spot
ewaskew Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I do'nt use nothing but the cans, but looks to me that you'll have to go all the way to the plastic to fix that,it looks like something you missed on the first clean up before painting.
Cato Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Well it seems to be lifting the primer under the color in that area. Like there was oil or grease on the plastic. I would sand the roof through the primer to the bare plastic or filler. If it's filler, test to see if the HOK is too hot for it. Then clean with 91% alcohol or a 3M prep solution, then reprime and paint. Write back when you solve it. Jeeze-Earl beat me to it.... Edited October 12, 2010 by Cato
Cato Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Sorry about that Cato Nah-helping the guy is the important thing!
ewaskew Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Your right Cato forgot to put the LOL on the last reply. As for your build you have going here lownslow we have all been there. I do'nt know if this kind of thing makes you want to give up on this one but do,nt its looking to good to do that. At least you did'nt do like me this weekend,I found out tha JADA kits are made of a diffrent plastic than your regular kits and they do'nt bond well together. So I went with another Revell kit to finish my truck. Thats right cut up TWO CARS man was I mad. So sanding that roof is'nt so bad. Earl

Chuck Most Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Is that a resin body? I've had paint do that on resin- usually it's some leftover mold release that I didn't clean completely off, or some other surface contaminant. By the way... what kind of car is that?

Johan California, third time wasnt a charm even after a deep cleaning and repriming something is up i think im gonna decal over with a print pattern
Cato Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Johan California, third time wasnt a charm even after a deep cleaning and repriming something is up i think im gonna decal over with a print pattern WOW-you work fast from the first post today. You should not have to redesign your build idea with a bogus vinyl top-it looks great all one color. I'd stick with it and here's how; back down to the bare plastic, clean and get all scratches out then first coat should be a barrier coat-of FUTURE. Let cure 24 hours, DON'T sand-it will self-level. Then your primer and paint technique. Some times I have TOO much patience...
Lownslow Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 thanks for all the replies guys i got impatient and fixed it with decals i think it helped too the hood was looking kinda naked
junkman1153 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 looks great you would never know about the paint problem
ewaskew Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Yea man that came out good. Thats a neat trick with the barrier I'll try that. Earl
