I'm building the Monogram 40 Ford pick up. The hinge for the hood is enormous and the holes for it in the firewall are mammoth. Who has hinged a 40 hood (or something comparable) and how did you do it so that it looked right? I'd love to hear about it and pics would be even better. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone else hinged the hood on a late 30's though 40's vehicle? I'd really appreciate a how-to here.

It depends on what your shooting for. Will this be a stock build and you want prototypically accurate hinges, or just something more to scale than the kit hinges, which agreed are very toylike.

If it's stock appearing hinges you are looking for, there are a couple of guys locally with '40 fords I could photograph the hinges for you. At least one of them should be at the cruise friday night.

if your looking to just have better looking hinges and a custom design is more to your liking I'll look at my kit, and see if I can figure out a better solution.

Be it pickup, coupe, convertible, or woody, I suspect they are all hinged the same.
