davyou5 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hello PPL, I am sorry to have to put this question here. I have been enjoying my time with placing the BMF on at least two models with some mistakes , but I am in the learning process. Well I got the the BMF Chrome in the mail the other day and I put it on the '68 Charger I am working on, While It looks really good, I had a thought about how unrealistic it actually looked. To me it just does not look like Chrome but more like the Aluminum foil for home use. I am going to keep the stuff on the Charger but I had an idea for something more realistic, so I went back to BMF's main site and saw that they had some Matte Aluminum, problem is I cannot find a picture of what the stuff looks like, I was able to find a Texture Picture of Matte Aluminum to give me an idea but I was wondering if anyone has worked with the stuff before, and how would you rate it as far as it being more of a realistic look to a model?

The matte aluminum will look even worse, as it has a dull finish that looks nothing like chrome plating. BMF also makes an "Ultra Chrome" that's shinier than their regular chrome foil, but the one and only time I used it, it wouldn't stick. Don't know if they've fixed the problem by now or not.

I used both the ultra and reg chrome on this one........It does need to be gently buffed...

Okay thanks for that info guys, I will not buy the Matte Aluminum. This is why I wanted to ask first before taking any action. the BMF I bought had a sticker on the clear plastic that said new and improved? And the Chrome did stick very well. So I will order up the Ultra and see where it goes from there. Thanks again. I used both the ultra and reg chrome on this one........It does need to be gently buffed... Well I know about buffing, so I ask how does one buff the BMF? And with what?
Lyonsperf Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I posted this in the blogs but i'll do it here again. I use the ultra chrome a lot. Sometimes I have issues with it sticking so I use a light coat of foil adhesive before foiling. I also polish the whole sheet when I get it using metal polish on a cotton pad. It really shines up the foil.
