doublejuggs Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hi All Im about to start this kit but wondered if anyone else on here had built one, point out any problems or issues and just give me idea's on detailing that rotary engine. Thanks
shucky Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hi there, I have this kit and its been an on/off project for me. As with most Tamiya kits, its very nice. The chassis is a bit crude but overall is workable. I was swapping the engine and chassis from the Tamiya with the body of an Aoshima kit. The engine builds up really nice and can be customized to your likings. Here is what I did with mine ...
doublejuggs Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Wow well thats one sweet looking engine, i'll be honest i don't think i am at that level yet but its some thing to aspire to. Cant wait to see the rest of it when its finished i'll be happy if mine looks half as good. Are some of those P/E parts or all scratch built?
Jon Cole Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Is this the kit? Mike, that is one sweet engine build!

Know nothing about turbos] and block? Edited October 22, 2010 by Mr. Show
cruz Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Mike, that engine is just too sweet man!!! I used a Rotary engine myself and placed it in a Vega about 2 years or so ago. I used the engine from an old Monogram RX7 kit but mine was not a turbo, it was more of a traditional, carburated engine from that era. edward smith Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Cruz, that is just awesome and unique, do you have more pictures of the actual model? I saw that it was published in the last Model Cars Magazine annual car show edition but no photos of the rest of the car.

When Gregg snapped the photo, he wanted the viewer to concentrate on the fact that you don't see too many Vegas with this sort of application, I am still happy that he published it and I thank him for that!! Anyway, here are some photos of the kit... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
meaneyme Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I saw this in person and believe me, pictures don't do it justice, pretty good idea about putting that engine in this car. Someone told me that the designers of the Vega were at some point going to use this type of engine in that same Vega on that era, anyone know of this?
shucky Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Marcos your Vega is awesome, I remember when you built that. Thanks for the compliments on my rotary also! Only photo etched part is the linkage arm. The exhaust mani + turbo is scratch built. The hose couplings are sections of aluminum tubing painted with Tamiya paint. I'm thinking about bringing a couple old shelved builds back out to finish them up and this is one of them. Good luck to the OP with your build, hope you share the build here on the forum.
doublejuggs Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Hi Jon yeah that's the kit, just getting parts cleaned up before primer so no worthwhile pictures yet. Cruz that's a great engine as well. Will try not to embarrass myself to much and attempt a turbo from scratch.

Believe me my friend, embarrasment will be the last thing in people's minds here when you get ready to attempt and work with your scratch building abilities, you can only get better when you try stuff like that. Good luck on your project and if I can be of any assistance, well, that's why we have our Private Messaging feature in this wonderful forum!!!
