I have heard about this day coming ever since GM started to dig their own grave. I can see why the pontiac is gone thought because they didn't sell alot of goods. They had their last ditch effort with the release of the new GTO and the G8 but that quickly went away unfortunantly. Someone asked why they didn't can buick and the answer to that is because the old people buy them. Instead of buying the cadillacs and high class chevies the old folks go get the buicks. Thati guess is still the old people's car LOL. They were talking about letting my brand (cadillac) go but met a resistance from the middle age people hence why hummer was sold to china (good riddens as well the new hummers were ###### and had many issues). Its sad to see the pontiac emblem meet the headstone of the automotive world's grave but as harry said its just a drop in the bucket and we all seen this one coming.

I can see the day when Buick outlives its usefulness and gets 'Oldsmoblied' as well. One day, it will just be Chevrolet and Cadillac... unless they drop the 'brand' names altogether and just start slapping GM badges on them.

Car nameplates come and go all the time... it just seems worse when it happens in our lifetime.

Does anyone here lose any sleep over the fact that these are all gone now:

Studebaker

Edsel

LaSalle

Oakland

Cord

Hupp

Kissel

Marmon

Stutz

Peerless

Packard

Willys

Hudson

Delorean

Rambler

Nash

Pierce-Arrow

Duesenberg

Auburn

and dozens, maybe hundreds more. So losing Pontiac isn't a very big deal in the overall scheme of things... just another drop in the bucket.

Sorry, I am new here. I was just reading this thread and I never seen Plymouth mentioned:(

How can we forget about the name of some of the worlds best muscle cars?

Ok now off to introduce myself!!
