Tommy Kortman Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 On Sat. this past weekend (11/06/10). A few of us went down to the Simeone Museum here in South Phila. for another one of their "Legends of Motorsports" days. This time they were highlighting the Porsche 917. They also brought in legendary racing driver Vic Elford. For those of you who are maybe to young to know, Mr. Elford has driven in and won in almost every form of auto racing. He has won the Monte Carlo Rally, He has won the 12 hours of Sebring in 1971, He won the Watkins Glen Trans-Am race in 1970. Vic has raced in F1, Endurance (24h of LeMans), Can-Am, Trans-Am, and even NASCAR. He was a real joy to talk to. The highlight of the day was watching Vic drive the 917 around the museum's "Test track". He also drove a replica of his '67 Monte Carlo winning 911s and the Havoline 962. Here are some pics and a link to many more photos. There are some great reference photos of the 911s, the 917, and the 962. Please enjoy!!! Here's Vic in the 917. This car finished 2nd at Le Mans in 1970 and still holds the lap record. And here is Vic piloting the 962. These cars sounded great, and the fuel (CAM 2?) smelled wonderful. Here's a link to many more photos. Simeone Museum LoM-917
