Aaronw Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I ran across this blog while looking for a history of driving laws. I thought others might find it interesting too. It covers the major US trucking laws over the years. I was very surprised to see how recently the current licensing regulations came into effect. 1880-1949 http://www.getloaded.com/content/history-trucking-regulation-1880-1949-part-1 1950-1985 http://www.getloaded.com/content/history-trucking-regulation-1880-1949-part-2 1986-1989 http://www.getloaded.com/content/history-trucking-regulation-1986-1989 1990- present http://www.getloaded.com/content/history-trucking-regulation-1986-1989-part-2
Guest Johnny Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I got my first commecial license to drive semi by taking the driving part of the test in a car furnished by the state for the testing facility! I had to drive around the parking lot, make a left and right turn and parallel parked between two posts that you could have parked a straight truck between! That was in Tampa Florida in the 70's! The driver that I was with that taught me to drive truck had 11 drivers licenses each from a different state!!! He picked Fl. because it was the easiest to get the commercial license from! I had a Wi. learners permit which I surrendered to Fl. who issued one for Fl. then I had to wait until the next day to take the test and get my license! Back in Wi. all I had to do was show them my Fl. license and they issued the Wi. license after only the written test! They gave me my Fl. license and said I should destroy it! Henry said not to but I did anyway! Wanted to do things legal!
