Guest Markus355 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 On the instruction sheet it mentions that this product is not for use with inkjet printers, only lasers, Why? And, has anyone used them with an inkjet with any success? I have a HP photosmart all in one printer scanner copier which according to HP, it is a "thermal inkjet" printer.
highway Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 On the instruction sheet it mentions that this product is not for use with inkjet printers, only lasers, Why? I'm not sure of the technical reasons why, but I do know inkjet printers do work differently than a laser printer. The inkjet does just what the name says, it sprays a jet of ink onto the paper. I would guess the laser uses a laser somehow to do this, but like I said, I have no clue of the techincal aspects of printers. I did check their website and found they do offer inkjet paper as well. Here's a link to the page about the papers. http://bare-metal.com/Experts-Choice-Decal-Film.html If you didn't already buy the paper, just get the inkjet type. If you did, either contact BMF or the hobby shop you bought it at and see if they will let you return it for the proper paper. I hope this helps.
Hoosierfarmboy Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 As Highway said inkjets spray a 'liquified ink' onto a media. The thermal versions heat and somewhat melt an ink source. Most inkjet inks will not adhere to laser decal paper. A laser printer uses a dry toner and heat/pressure to adhere the print to a media source. Thus the laser decal sheet is made for that process. I worked as a copier, printer, fax tech for many years so I learned the different processes. Color units use 4 different toners to produce a color print. The old Alps could do 'white' in addition.
Nick Winter Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) Thats what I use, both there white and clear inkjet, have had very good results using it and Microscale Liquid Decal Film, print them let the ink dry, then coat them with the Microscale and let dry and it's worked pretty well for me. I buy the Ink jet Clear and white paper, you can also get Laser Clear and white though. Edited November 16, 2010 by Nick Winter-Dukefan69'
Aaronw Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Yep, you just bought the wrong type, BMF sells both kinds and they are not interchangable. The inkjet has a special coating that keeps the ink from beading up on the film, but I've been told the coating will melt in a laser printer. The laser paper doesn't have this coating so in an inkjet the ink will not stay put. Laser printers use a powder which melts onto the paper, inkjets use a liquid ink.
