shaggy2dope495 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hey guys, pretty new to all this modeling stuff. With some suggestions from some friendly members, I am going to prime the body and the engine parts. After I prime a part, how long should I wait before I paint it? And should I do one or more coats. Thanks for helping a noob.
whale392 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Get everything together in subassemblies first, then prime them. As to length of time to topcoat; some can be topcoated in an hour, some will take days before topcoating. And will you sand the primer smooth or topcoat over the initial primer surface?
shaggy2dope495 Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 i probably wont sand since this is my first one and i want a bit more experience with just basic assembly and painting. Any suggestions as to any particular type or brand of spray paint to use for the body and such? I have some small bottles of Testors Enamel that i'm gonna use for details. Also, any suggestions on how to rig a stand for the body or smaller parts when i prime them?

I hear Tamiya is good too, but I haven't been able to get really good results from it. I suggest getting some 600 or 800 sand paper and use it to wet sand the primer. If you're shooting from a can, it will look a lot better with a light wet sanding between coats.
