Railfreak78 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hey guys this may seem like a stupid question but I am not real familiar with this engine and the instructions are a bit vague on molded in parts. The molded in part hanging off the front cover: Is this supposed to be an oil filter or the fuel pump? If its the fuel pump where is the oil filter suppost to go? One last question too. The coil on this is in the back of the engine. I thought All Fords were in the front. Am I wrong on this car? Thanks to all for your advice
Mark Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 It's the fuel pump. The cylindrical thing sticking out of the side of the engine block right behind it is the oil filter. The oil filter is a bolt-on unit (long bolt through the center) which is why it has bolt head detail at the end. Later Ford V8 engines have the distributor and coil at the front, but not the Y-block which was used in North American Fords from 1954 through 1962.
txdieseldog Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Brian, I am currently building the same kit because my brother that passed away in '94 had a 1:1 that he and I worked on together and I am building a tribute. I wasn't really sure on distributor and coil myself because I was the little brother that held the light. I did some google and found an engine shot. Not the best view of everything but decent shot. Have fun with it. Barry

AzTom Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 The photo Barry posted is one for vacuum wipers and it looks like the AMT is for electric wipers. It's only going to make a difference if you plan on plumbing the engine. I may have a photo of the electric wiper version if you can't find one, I have a 56 1/18 on the "To Do" list. AzTom
