imatt88 Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Hey all, My brother-in-law gave me this. He says he built it when he was a kid and he's in his mid '50s, The only markings I could find was Revell stamped on the bottom. A '53 Panel van? Anyone have an idea what kit this is? AND...does anyone have any idea what doner kit I could use to convert it back to stock configuration? Considering its age, can it even be converted? Cheers, Ian
Railfreak78 Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) I think this is the stock version. Obviously a newer release. I have plans for this one but the kit in the picture ( Lower left) is actually easy to find on Ebay and maybe even E-model cars (well not stock but also not gasser oops ) Edited November 28, 2010 by Railfreak78
disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Hi Ian... It looks like you have a Revell 54 Chevy panel truck or delivery. Mark Edited November 28, 2010 by disabled modeler
Nick Winter Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 This may help you out it's the instruction sheet for that kit, not sure if it's the same release though Revell '53 Chevy Panel
imatt88 Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 Hey all, Thanks for the info. Another project for down the road
imatt88 Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 Yeah, now that I really look at it, I probably built a few when I was kid as well Underneath, the plastic is red, so I'm guessing '60's version(?) Cheers, Ian
Modelmartin Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 My memory board in my brain may be fried but I thought the very firt release of this kit had a painting on the cover. I thought it depicted the car in a street machine mode. I could be wrong. I think the box you have is either the second or third version. That model was released during Revells "Bad" period. It is a tough kit to build well. To make a stocker just stuff the guts from an AMT/ERTL 51 Chev under it. Those are plentiful. Also the real car is known as a "Sedan Delivery" despite Revell calling it a panel.
imatt88 Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it will definately get a resto job at some point.
Adam deCoste Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) the 54 gasser van kit i have is molded in white and from 1973 and the red non gasser panel van i have is from 1987. the kit from 1973 could be a gasser or stock and the red one from 1987 could only be stock. and also that model up there has a 53 grill witch u could get in the one from 1973 but not the kit from 1987, but who noes that could of been kit bashed Edited November 28, 2010 by Adam deCoste
imatt88 Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 Adam, I don't think he kitbashed the van, he was a casual modeler. A furure project Hey all, Here is another future project waiting in the wings MPC 1976 Ventura, needs a motor and wheels/rims And this one, I need help with this one, its a Mercury Cougar, '67 or '68? but it's molded in tan plastic(?) I thought it was MPC, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? It's missing a bunch of parts, I'd like to go factory stock with this one. The emblem on the front fender says "390" on it. Anyone know when I can get replacement parts for it? Yet another restoration project Cheers, Ian
Eshaver Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Thats a 1969 Cougar Eliminator . I think M P C did it . I was installing radios and hubcaps in a Mercury dealer when they were new too.............. Dammn , I'm too old now Ed Shaver

Yet another restoration project Cheers, Ian That 69 Cougar is made by AMT, I have the same one mint in the box, It was made around 1982 or 83, When Matchbox owned AMT,The stock number on the box is PK-4169, That is the last issue of that kit before they made the eleminator in the early 90's The one you have would be great for a factory stock build, Just grab the hood from one of the newer issues of the kit, and find a 390 to put in there, And you can use the hood from the one you have in the photo ,That way you already have the hood cut out for the eleminator version, Nice Finds, I like the Ventura,And the Cougar
spkgibson Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Here are the photos of the box art for both the Cougar,And the Ventura.
Nick Winter Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 The Ventura used the same engine as the AMT '70's Trans Am's. Not sure about wheels or tires though, If you need a shaker let me know.
