lowriderphil Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Sooo, I have spent the last few hours in autocad working out the design and started cutting some walls. Gonna be a slow build but I hope to have it done in time for NNL East in April, if not then Toledo. She's big, 24"x16"x10" (48'x32'x20'). Basic idea is a small hydro shop, lift and install bay on the left, and the right bay will have some fabrication tables. the right side of the building will house a show room in the front and the rear will be storage on the first floor and the office up top. Still got a loooonnngggg way to go yet, not to mention money in styrene. Gonna have H columns, I beams and roof trusses, (roof will be removable but the trusses will remain) Phil
disabled modeler Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Looks like your off to a great start Phil .
lowriderphil Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Looks like your off to a great start Phil . thank you, I was gonna go simple but after seeing cranky's work I got inspired http://s13.zetaboards.com/B_n_B_Auto_Builders/topic/6747048/1/ (pic borrowed from cranky's topic) Edited December 14, 2010 by lowriderphil
crazyjim Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Seems everybody is into dios all of a sudden - and I love it! Like your idea(s) Phil. Let's see more.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I agree with Jim, it's a good one. Keep it going. I love the clean cut windows and doors . . .
crazyjim Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 What are you using for the walls, Phil? It looks almost translucent.
GTMust Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I'm looking forward to following this one! You're off to a great start and I love the concept.
lowriderphil Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 What are you using for the walls, Phil? It looks almost translucent. 3/16" foam board I picked up from the local dollar tree. its not like the kind I'm used to as it doesn't have the shiny paper coating and it seems to be a bit more denser, the shiny backed foam from elmers usually leaves behind chunks when I cut it but this doesn't. Also I payed $1 each as opposed to 2-3 at other stores, never know how long they will have them on stock so I bought 20 sheets
Dr. Cranky Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 My advice is to seal it all in with a couple of coats of primer . . . trust me it's good insurance.

lowriderphil Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 WOW, I think I need to go to Dollar Tree now. That's why I stocked up. whats 20 bucks now when you could need it a year from now and not be able to find it.
GTMust Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 A couple of questions (and I'm sure you've already figured these out and I'm not reading your idea properly): 1. With all the equipment you plan in the shop, where will you put the vehicles? 2. I don't see any doors from the offices/showroom into the shop. The only door appears to be somewhere between the back office and the stairs. Have you had a change of layout? Or am I missing something? I love the concept and I hope I'm not being nit-picky!
GTMust Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Oops.... I think I jumped the gun! I figured it out after I looked at your pics again. I'll just shut up and let your progress pictures do the talking. Sorry 'bout that.

Now that I have had some time to review the building plans, I think I may add in a loading door to the storage area on the right side of the building.
