diymirage Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 hey guys, im wondering if there is a model kit out for this car ? i want to build one of the most iconic movie cars ever (sadly only fellow member erik onlijsma will know it) id prefer a convert but id settle for a hardtop and a razor saw
Railfreak78 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I'm not sure if there is a lot of difference but I restored this 74. It's an annual. In the very bottom of the bottom pic there is a 73. It is made but not sure the differences. You might be able to find a re-pop but they are based on the 74-76 Caprice.
diymirage Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 that is a nice stash you got there gotta love the old MPC kits im afriad they want big bucks for those though ? for the model im building it shoudlnt matter too much...when they made the 3 movie in the series and started filming the TVshows they used an impala because they couldnt find a caprice
highway Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 that is a nice stash you got there Yeah, if that is your stash Brian, I want the 1975 Firebird!!!!
Railfreak78 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Its actually not my stash. I want the 75 Road Runner kits here in this pic sooooooo bad They belong to a lady in our club and they are not for sale as they belonged to her husband. All of these are Annuals and go for a lot normally. I'd check into the differences though of the years. I just found out the 76 Caprice just hit the shelves again and the local shops. I hope this helps bud
diymirage Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 thanks, ill see what i can come up with (not in a hurry anyways)
Greg Cullinan Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 The Unbuilt 73's are pricey. I actually think you may be able to acquire a promo for less.
MyBradKeselowski Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 The Unbuilt 73's are pricey. I actually think you may be able to acquire a promo for less. I agree they are very pricey, as myself I have an original MPC 73 caprice unbuilt kit. It is painted with the factory gold metallic paint job as it states on the box...
mikemodeler Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 There might be a few differences between the years of '73-76 but the biggest would be the larger government mandated bumpers that all 1974 model year cars were required to have. As was stated, the reissue of the '76 kit is out there, I would pick one up to see if the body is accurate for what you are looking to build. The Modelhaus has replacement bumpers and grille available to convert it to a '73 if needed. I did see the '76 Chevy kit on the shelf at a Hobby Lobby and with their 40% off coupon, it could be had for around $10-$11! Best of luck!
