Truckeer Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Hey guys, hope this is the right forum for this post... I put some models together when i was a teenager but haven't really done much since. I glued them together, applied the decals, you know the standard stuff. I'm looking to get back into it, but figure I should take it a little more seriously... haha. I'm going to look to paint and detail and stuff, is there a good beginners place to start? Sort of "You need to start here and read this"? Also - I'm looking to build pickups to start, that is where my passion is. Is eBay the best place to find older kits? I want to build a 70s Bronco or Ford pickup. What about supplies? What are the "must haves" to get started? Lots of questions, thanks in advance. Truckeer.
lordairgtar Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I see you are Canadian but you don't mention the area you live in. Find a local Hobby Shop or a Micheals (craft store), Meijers or similar place. You can find all kinds of detailing supplies outside of the normal model car realm in these stores like little tiny chains or wires. There is even a Martha Stewart brand of flocking that will look good as carpeting material and is cheap. There are a lot of online stores also. I can say just by looking through this forum, you will find links to suppliers of kits, parts, resin bodies and all that. Ebay does have a goodly supply of kits to bid on, but older kits can get into "stupid money". If you can find a model swap meet event near you, that is a good place to stock up on kits, built-ups, parts and other stuff. On this and other forums, just ask people how they did a particular thing you'd like to try. Using the search function will get you to threads on basic how tos. Kalmbach Publishing has several books about detailing model cars and weathering them too as this would be perfect for pick up building.
