Chuck Most Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I picked up a grab bag of spares just before X-mas, and this was one of my scores- It has "Ford V225 Diesel" on the valve covers, is that a reference to the horsepower or displacement? I'm assuming it's from an AMT kit, is this correct? And lastly, should it be painted yellow?
Chuck Most Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Thanks Dave. I kind of wondered if that kit was the source.
Old Albion Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Caterpillar 3208. The 225 I believe refers to the HP. Dave
cowboysevens Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 looks like the ford designed caterpiller 3208. the only differance i think was the valve covers were ford in most of the ford trucks they were in. hope this helps dennis
highway Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Chuck, check this thread out, it might help. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39535
Chuck Most Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Yes, that does help, and reference pics to boot! Thanks for the info, guys!
Ben Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) That is actually not a 3208 as even I thought it was. After talking with a very accomplished model truck engine builder as well as being a former diesel mechanic, that is actually the predecessor to the 3208 as it has the longer fuel pump and smaller front cover. It's an 1160. Edited January 8, 2011 by Ben
