Well, the L-88 has a glue blob about the size of a pencil eraser on the door. For those of you that haven`t read the article or thread, it was finished in duplicolor lacquers. The glue has dried. Does anyone know what to use to get crazy/super/CA glue off of lacquer without damaging the paint? Wet-sanding and buffing is not an option.

I have had a little luck in the past using a brand new exacto blade and carefully sliding the blade between the paint and glob. Sometimes it will just pop off and sometimes it will lift the paint. That's why you have to be very careful and try and slice between the two. However if it's in a bad spot ( a bend in the body or somwhere you can't get the blade in) this will not work very well. If it does pop off or seperate a light sanding with a clear coat(airbrush) and buffing will usually make it better. It will probably never be perfit.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

Why is wet-sanding and repolishing the spot not an option? I've had to do it several times.

Unfortunately, it is about 1000 miles away at the buyer`s home, and he is unable to do it.

try baby oil (from the bottle not squeezed from babies ) or a light cooking oil. Several applications maybe needed but it should break it down.

Thanks for the tip. I am trying this, and have had it sitting with an hour and a half or so with the baby oil on it, but no luck so far. Will this "lift" the glue off, or will it break it down? About how long does it take in your experience? I noticed it says "mineral spirits". Will that eventually strip the paint if it is on too long?

Thanks

Try a bit of debonder on a q tip...

The only debonder I know of is "UnCure." If memory serves, it dissolves paint even better than it dissolves CA (superglue). Test before using.

Mineral spirits is turpentine and it will eat enamel based paint. I usually rub the affected area with a q tip soaked in the baby oil as soon as It happens so am unsure what the long term affects will be from soaking in it (ie leeching into the paint etc). Sorry if this doesnt help much, only other suggestion I have would be to glue a small piece of sandpaper to a pencil end or piece of dowel and try to sand (with just a twisting motion) the blob down as much as possible .
