camarobuilder Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 My next project is a 1967 Camaro Pro Street. It's being built as a replica of Doug Phillips Camaro from the mid '80's. The only kit available is the AMT kit, which has chromed headlights and turn signals. Has anyone found a way to make this look more realistic? I have the MCG detail set, which has the mesh for the grille. What do I do with the headlights/turn signals? I was thinking about a mix of white paint and epoxy to create a "lense" for the turn signals. Maybe using the Dremel with a round bit to hollow the headlights and use the Revell '69 Camaro lenses??? Just wondering what others do, besides using an RS grille. Thanks, Frank
Guest Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I did mine exactly as you said Frank. I drilled into the headlights with a bit a little smaller so that it would leave a ring. I didn't drill all the way through so that I would still have a bucket. Then I burnished some foil into the inside and added the lense. It worked really nice and made a big difference in it's appearance. Here's a photo of one I built around ten years ago:
camarobuilder Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) That looks really good. How did you do the turn signals? BTW, what hood did you use? Edited January 18, 2011 by camarobuilder
Guest Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Frank, the turn signals are just painted with flat white. If I had it to do over,I would just brush on some windshield or Elmer's glue over them. The hood is the kit hood with the cowl scoop from an old Monogram '69 Camaro glued and molded on.
