kerc Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 All joking aside, I'm planning on taking quite a few models with me there to compete this year. Who's planning on going? It would be cool for us SA auto modelers to meet each other! Click here to see the flyer in PDF format... Whaddaya say, guys?

I will be in San Antonio from this Saturday until Thursday attending the SolidWorks convention. If I were to get there soon enough and feel like it I might come by. I couldn't open the pdf, so where is the contest being held? Thanks for any information. Mike

Mike Saturday, February 19, at the Live Oak Civic Center, 8101 Pat Booker Rd., Live Oak, TX. So I guess you won't be here for that date...
torinobradley Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'll be there but didn't finish anything to put in the show... Seems everything I have been working on lately have been very detailed and intracate projects. I've been contemplating doing a near-box stocker or work on one of my near completes but just keep gravitating back to the super detailed ones... Ah well, I'm there for buying and ideas and of course, to meet many new and existing friends. There's also the Eckmans toy show this Saturday (22nd) from 9-5 at the same place.

That toy show, it's just sales? Or do they have some sort of model show going?
torinobradley Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Pretty much just toys. Lots of hot wheels and some huge vendors with G I Joe stuff. Very few models. I have found a few treasures there like a Blue Flame promotional model for $5 & such. But those type of things are few and far between. Most of the time, I come home with a few die casts and maybe one kit, if I'm lucky. Good time with the kiddo is the main thing for me. Let me know if and when your gonna be there.
Eric Stone Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm keeping this on the back burner, but realistically kinda doubt I'll be there since it's a 4 hour drive from Houston.
Ben Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I'll be there! I don't compete in that contest but I go through the venders area and check out the built models.

Ben Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I build semi's mostly. One year I entered a totally scratch built flatbed trailer that I made in 1/64 scale. I even machined the two hole Budd wheels out of aluminum, added real aluminum bolts (VERY tiny!) and then cast the wheels in resin. I also entered an extended cab Chevy dually (this was before the 89 extended cab or dually kits ever even came out) I had extended the cab, interior and chassis and added a resin dually bed and wheels. I was beat by a kid that built a pickup straight out of the box with a spray can, fade paint job. There's never anyone at those shows that knows ANYTHING about trucks so they can't realize just how much has been done to build a particular model. There's fifty guys there that know the exact with of a tank track link or a gun's barrel dia. but that's about it! I vowed never to bother entering anything there again.
