JPR Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Just a heads up for anyone in or around Nashville. Aardvark Model Train shop is closing its doors For anyone who has never been there they sell way more model kits than trains. They always had an amazing selection of models weather it be American or Japanese and amazing parts for the kits as well. I have picked up a good amount of rare Aoishima rims from there in the past and the even carry Promo Cars. Anyway everything at the store is currently 20% off and Im sure it will get lower with time. Go grab what you can before its all gone and meet the amazing owners of this place before its gone. Today while I was there they still had over a hundred kits left.
ra7c7er Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Sucks to hear about another shop closing. Two on the Illinois side of St. Louis have closed with in the last year. Discounts are always good for the modelers though.
JPR Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Yeah it sure does. The man and woman that run the shop are the nicest people too, even there dog is that is sometimes there. I think one of the reason it is going out is because a large strip mall was built in front of it and this place can be very hard to find since it is behind it. They never got to much buisness either. I remember finding wheels and Aoishima kits there that were produced in the late 80's. They also mentioned something about the price of the kits jumping up so they cant afford to keep them stocked now.

The model companies set minimum order limits (had to buy by full cases) so the only way they could stock up without breaking the bank was through a jobber who took his cut which increased what they had to pay per kit by quite a lot. That left them with either selling at a very minimum profit or to be way overpriced plus they had to compete with the big chain stores at the time! They would diversify with either model railroad stuff or RC stuff but then they were competeing with all the internet stores a lot of which hold orders until they have enough to meet minimum ordering requirements to get the cheaper wholesale price plus the stuff was being dropshipped direct to the customer! My wife's brother-in-law was doing it and making a ton of extra cash without ever touching or seeing the product!
