Mercman Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I'm doing a repaint on a die cast truck for a guy, and couldn't get it disassembled. Therefore I masked off the under carriage, wheels and such, along with the windows. I can repaint the bottom by hand if need be to cover over spray, but here is the main question. How would you seal the edge of the tape to prevent seep through? I am using green, and blue painters tapes, low stick. Should I apply a light coat of acrylic gloss, or what? Thanks for your input.

Shooting a preliminary coat of clear gloss is one way of sealing the tape lines.
Dave Ambrose Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 If you can find a "spoon" burnisher at an art supply store, you'll be able to press the edges down tightly enough to keep the paint out. You'll also have something to rub out dry transfers on tires too. I've used frisket film in place of masking tape for critical or delicate masking. You can also use Micro Mask to either seal the tape edges, or work as the masking agent.
