Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Folks, here's a question for you lovers of 32 Fords. Has anybody ever narrowed a 32 Ford into a one seater? If so, do you have pictures . . . and if so, how many scale inches did you cut? I am thinking of doing a salt flats type of 32 Ford rocket with narrow body, chassis, and grill . . . just curious. Thanks for your input.
Gray Smith Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 just an idea..i've been thinking of this one for a while...easy to do with the midget kits out for that v8-60
Rob Z Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Sorry Cranky but, I can't be of any help in this matter, I sure would like to see it come to life though...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Thanks, yes, that's sort of the look, which is going to mean narrowing the chassis too. Should be fun.
Mad Slammer Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 That is a great idea for a slammer or a curbside build. . .
GTMust Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It's a great idea, Doc. I look forward to see you make it come to life. Tony
made007 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 do a salt flatss zombie crusher....................... just joking , LOL
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 LOL! Yeah, I can do that. A Salt Flats "SunStruck Zombie" Salt Licker!
Ryan S. Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Just thinking out loud here, but if it's going to be a single seater, why not pick a seat that you'll use, then base the narrowing around that? If you go for full detail, an inline 6 or 4-banger could work, being narrow enough. A motor and a seat choice could dictate the rest of the dimensions. How about taking the stovebolt-6 from the Revell 41 Chevy pickup and attaching a Potvin style, front mounted blower? Just a thought...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Yes, yes, I love that idea . . . now we're thinking!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 This would definitely be interesting!
Rob Z Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Love that Hemi set up but, just another idea, how about the flat 6 out of the '41 Plymouth with that blower setup... Would be interesting and challenging at the same time...
Tony T Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Or a rear mounted Corvair H6 with Twin Turbos (or hot-rodded Porsche, or VW engine). That big V8 would need some room up front. With the engine out back behind the driver, the narrowing of body and frame wouldn't limit space as much as the space ahead of the firewall needed for an engine, especially a V8. If you had to keep the motive power out front, you'd have to look at an inline engine, 6 cyl or maybe 8 cyl...
Paul Payne Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Cranky, This one caught my interest. I build 40's style hot rods, raced at the dry lakes. The lakesters and modified were single seat narrowed to about the width of a stock 32 grille shell. Depending on how old school you want to go, consider an Offy 4 banger or Ford model T or A engine with some vintage speed equipment- maybe a Frontenac head on the T block? The Revell ratrods pickup kit would have a lot of potential doner parts and the new midgets look promising. Anything v-8 would stick way out beyond the body envelope, and make the narrow body kind of pointless. Just thought of another possibility- how about the engine from the Monogram Bugatti T-35b kit?

Or, since we're cuttin' everything down, why not use the little "two holer" from the Mickey Thompson Attempt1 kit?
