ra7c7er Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 When I brush paint a seat or other smaller parts it always has that brushed look. I use high quality brushes and I try not to put on to much paint but I just can't get it to look smooth. What is the best way to just sand down tight spaces and small parts. All I want to do is smooth out the paint not really polish it or anything. I can't wait to get airbrush, btw.
CAL Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I like these sanding needles http://store.spruebrothers.com/sanding-needles-medium---240-grit-12ea-402-p21276.aspx also sold at Hobby Lobby.
MikeMc Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Sounds like a flow problem..sanding is not the issue here. Not knowing what kind of paint we are using, you might need a retarder or thinner added to the paint to let it level out. Also if primed, 1 stroke with color,do not "go over it" you will get an uneven surface...
Guest Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I reserve brushing for detail painting. Things like seats, engine blocks, almost everything else other than detail painting I use either a spray can or airbrush.
Guest Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Robert,if you have to brush paint, use acrylic enamel (water based) paints. It flows from the brush very well. If you have nice brushes, you probably won't be able to see any brush marks at all. Testors also has some nice interior paints in the spray can. It has a fabric/textured look. They have tan, gray, blue, red and maybe a couple more. Here's a photo of an interior sprayed with the fabric tan.
