montelsc Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 this is the trumpeter 78 monte carlo bought it 4 years ago it looks like a real project nothing is together has anyone attempted this? this is how far ive gotten
imatt88 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Mike, Yeah, I agree, its going to be a project. They're famous for LOTS of parts in their kits. Their aircraft kits are worse. I have the '60 Bonny kit, I must admit, its a little intimidating. So far, so good Cheers, Ian

montelsc Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 yes and no, years back i hacked one into a pro street project that i never finished. there's not much from the Trumpeter kit left and even the finished car, if it ever get's finished won't have much from the original kit. there were ALOT of fit issues and that was evident before i made the decision to go the pro street route. pretty much got the impression that the best part of this kit, is the box art. yes it definitly looks that way. from what i see on the directions it doesnt tell you if the trunk opens and closes. il soon find out
montelsc Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Wow, what a ride... yeah his looks better than mine and its not even painted. maybe i should put mine back in the box for another 4 years
walt francis Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I haven't done one but if I am taking a shot at this Lindberg 37 cord you can get this ....I know you can !
diymirage Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 not a trumpeter but i started fiddling with the AMT class action monte today (repop of the old wheeler dealer i think)
kurth Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) I got one 99% finished and it was how I learned the valueable lesson to test fit and check ride height. I got the whole thing done and it looked like it was sitting on jack stands. I also had trouble getting the frame to stay attached to the chassis pan. I actually documented the whole build. This was right when the kit was released. http://public.fotki.com/kurtains/models/monte/ Learn from my mistakes and tragic ending In short, The body and interior are nice, the engine is very weak, and some parts under the car are a little odd looking. The wheels and tires seemed a bit undersized to my eye. -Kurt Edited February 28, 2011 by kurth
montelsc Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 i didnt get to the engine yet but i felt the same way about the wheels anyway yours does look good thanks for the info

Terror Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I'll be watchin,I have this one too.I opened it looked it over and said thats nice and stuck it on the shelf.
kurth Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I am also working on the Recently issued MPC monte carlo. I just painted the body with rustoleum lacquer. I am picking this model up after shelving it almost 2 years ago. Here is the mock-up I am imagining a "high school hot rod" as someone might have fixed it up in the late 80s or early 90s. So the paint job does not need to look perfect, I am thinking of some primer patches around the rear wheel opening, and perhaps some "stp" stickers in the rear quarter windows.
montelsc Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 love the shine on that paint job. i also like the wheels on the other one i may not use the original wheels im still undecided thanks for those pics
montelsc Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 I'll be watchin,I have this one too.I opened it looked it over and said thats nice and stuck it on the shelf. yeah when i opened mine 4 yrs ago i was overwhemled and intimidated thats why i sat so long.

Trae Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 im sure they all came with v8s not v6s (basic 350 chevy) Actually, the V8 in the '78 was a 305, not 350. Of course, there is little or no difference externally, so in model form that's irrelevant. And there was definitely a V6-powered Monte Carlo in '78, though I have no idea how many were built.
