Wagoneer81 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Now that I know which direction I'm going with this build, I've decided to post some pictures. Here's where I am so far. I started weathering the chassis before I finished building it... I'd never worked with acyrlics or weathered a truck before so I was experimenting. I have started roughing up the paintjob as this is going to be an old, used and abused farm truck and trailer. I got the paint a little heavy in places when I painted the trailer and it dried with airpockets under the paint in several places... then the paint chipped away ... Not good for a clean, pretty build but it works out great from a weathering standpoint... makes it easy to show chipped paint with aluminum corrosion under it... So, onward and upward! I'll be finishing this build before I start another so updates should be fairly common... I have a bad habit of not finishing projects that I start and I'm making a concentrated effort to throw off that habit... Edited March 1, 2011 by Wagoneer81

Kostas Parchas Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Looks good so far! Strange but nice color combo for the titan... Kostas.
Wagoneer81 Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Small update; The trailer is finished except for lights and weathering, still a ways to go on the tractor. Here are the two of them mocked up together... Kostas, thank you! It is kind of an odd non-factory paintjob. I tried for a 'homegrown' paintjob that looked like it had been cooked up in some farmers equipment barn. You know the kind, the trucks owner gets ahold of a couple of gallons of blue paint, looks at his plain white truck and grabs the roll of masking tape... Edited March 15, 2011 by Wagoneer81
Guest Johnny Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) Having been in trucking on and off from the mid 70's through the mid 90's I have seen them all! Especially O/O rigs in the 70's and 80's! There were a lot that had non factory paint schemes out there! They made the truck their own! Had a neighbor took his KW 123 to a local shop called Kustom Unlimited and had his painted Hugger Orange with the graphics done in white lace! The truck looks good! Edited March 15, 2011 by Johnny

Bet you don't have pix.
Guest Johnny Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) White lace ??? Bet you don't have pix. I don't know how old you are Clayton but back in the late 60's, early 70's a lace paint job on a Chevelle, GTO, Mustang etc. was a hot deal! I did a few in the garage on my own using plastic lace table cloths bought at the 5 & 10 store! They just applied the same to the stripes on the truck. Back mask the area to be striped and just tape the table cloth over the area and shoot the white through it! Example of a lace job. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/jal_attachments/8/3/2/168993.thumb?d=1141845990 Edited March 15, 2011 by Johnny
highway Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Chris, I like the contrasting roof and front bulkhead on the trailer! Maybe that can give me an idea to fix the goof ups on my Ford's trailer without stripping it!

Maybe that can give me an idea to fix the goof ups on my Ford's trailer without stripping it! If you like the idea, then by all means run with it! I originally started this combo as a mild custom/ matched pair but after a few issues with the paint, decided to weather the snot out of it and give it that used and abused look. I painted the sides with Testors chrome. You know, the stuff that never seems to dry and picks up fingerprints like crazy... I got past those issues with a coat of Testors Dullcoat. Made the sides look like aluminum in need of polishing. I say squirt your roof and nose with a color that compliments the tractor, if not the same color as the tractor, call it good and FINISH that puppy! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

There's only one problem with that idea, Chris, I'm out of the paint I used for the cab! Oh, and before you say "Go get more", did I mention it's $20 a CAN! I already have $60 in just the cab, but I think I might have some darker aluminum around here that might set it off nice.

Well, that's why I said "a color that compliments the tractor"... I remembered that it was pretty pricy stuff... I think a darker aluminum or an Argent Silver would do the job though... I'm just glad that my stuff can give ideas or inspire... Lord knows you all do that for me on a regular basis! Edited March 16, 2011 by Wagoneer81
