flashbender Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Now I can't seem to find any books on the subject at Borders or Barnes and Noble on modeling. I checked out some books at my library, but those seem to be advanced skills to learn to a modeler that already has the basic knowledge. My question is there a book out there that is in print for the basic knowledge on everything, esp spraying a model, sanding the painted model, and finishing kit. Basically like a "For Dummies" type book. Any help on this would be great appreciated.

mageckman Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Brian, I have two books I am going to recommend. I don't consider either of them as a "For Dummies" book, but they are full of the basics. The first is "How to Build Scale Models" from Fine Scale Modeler magazine. A very good book that gives a basic overview of different kinds of modeling. The second is "Painting and Finishing Scale Models" by Paul Boyer. It goes over several types of painting and most of the prep to get ya there. On top of this, you already have a good start... You are here and asking questions. Hope this helps.

I have both of these books and I agree with mageckman that they were a good start. I think it's always a good idea to have reference material. If you perform careful research and ask thoughtful questions, you will find a wealth of useful information on this forum to help you overcome any hobby issues that come across.
MikeMc Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 In all honesty this months issue of SA should be on everybodys list....if you airbrush....But JH is such a loser...
DRG Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 When I got back into building models I went through the tips and tutorials section and printed out a lot of information. I also went through the tips and tutorials section of SA. Put all that information in a three ring binder
carrucha Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I recommend Building and Detailing Scale Model Cars by Pat Covert. Pat Covert used to write articles for "Scale Auto Enthusiast". It's out of print but you may be able to find one on eBay.
