Jantrix Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Hmm. Strip the chrome. Krylon has a silver spray that is just for plastics. It comes out looking very "steel-ish" or just use steel colored hobby paint. Then create a wash using some black india ink or paint and go to it.
monkeyclaw Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 For the blower texture & color; try using a spray can of "cast - cote" get it from most auto parts stores..matt
novadose71 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Try Testors Metalizer followed with a wet coat of Dullcote, let dry, then apply a black wash(or darker Metalizerwash) followed by another shot of Dullcote. If this ends up too dark you can drybrush metalizer(same or a lighter/darker color to suit your needs) over it. This can be followed by more dullcote if a flatter finish is what your after. I like to have the full range of Metalizers on the bench and can get many different effects and enjoyment using these methods. Good luck All the raw metal surfaces on here, except the headers, were done this way, IIRC the intake is metalizer stainless steel, and the cam covers are buffing aluminum This "mag" was done the same way, but using Metalizer magnesium
MikeMc Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Use MM metalizer in magnesium....shoot the paint "dry" by backing up a bit....this will give you the look and texture. The wheels on this were done this way
JPR Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I have gotten an effect similar to this with Testors aluminum with a black wash over it.
