mhadman Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I want to replicate cars (and trucks)I used to own. On the list are these two...first is an 84 Firebird that was actually me then girlfriends, and now wife. 2nd is my old 85 Chevy pick up I owned in the 90's. Anyone know what kits i might be able to find (1/25 scale)to replicate these...TIA
crispy Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Mark, I think a good place to start on your Firebird would be to get the 82 Pontiac Firebird by Revell in 1/25 scale kit #7215. I would then use the hood from one of the Monogram 85/87 kits, although in 1/24 scale I think you could make it work. The wheels look like they were left over from the late 70's Trans Am's. Are they snowflakes, or the real tight diamond style? IF they are the diamond style you could use them from the two aforementioned kits I suggested. I know Monogram did an 83 Trans Am as well, but I cannot remember the scale. That too would possibly have the hood required, but I am at a blank for it right now. No ideas on the truck. Chris
mhadman Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 what should i research for the Firebird? You don't have a kit # do you...?I can't seem to find one. As for the truck,well..............
KT EASTMAN Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I agree with Steve in that the old MPC kits are the way to go to build one of the Birds. They are kinda getting a bit rarer than they were just a few short years ago but they are still around. The Revell "82 Firebird" seems to bring a large $$ when they come up for auction. Don't forget to research them as Trans Ams and not Firebirds. MPC as opposed to Revellogram had the right to use the Trans Am name. As far as the Chevy truck, It appears that you can use the current issue AMT "ex-Fall Guy" pickup as your base. I hope this helps !! Good Luck!!!
Jason Rothgeb Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Mark, I am not that up on the MPC kits, but I can tell you you are most likely going to need a couple of kits to get that done in scale. The hood was available on 1985-1992 T/As and GTAs. The wheels I'm not a 100% on, but I do know they are not a top of the line wheel 3rd Gen wheel, maybe the SE and optional on the base Firebird? Also this car does not have the 84 and up ground effects, just the base Firebird/SE body. So your best bet is an early MPC kit (82-84) with a pirated hood from an AMT GTA kit. As for the wheels...not up enough to know whether those wheels showed up in a Firebird kit.
