Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hello and thanks for looking. Your in luck I had alot to say but I ended up clicking on something to try and add multiple pics instead of just one at a time and what I had to say went away lol. So anyway i'm not only new to model building but to this forum as well. This is my third build and my first post here about my build. This forum is really awesome with the shareing and everything. I've learned and enjoyed myself so much reading and looking at all your builds and checking the tips/tricks section. I dont have a whole lotta pics of this build I lost a couple some how and im not done yet so there will be more. I lowered the rearend on this thing, it was just sitting way to high for me. Oh and this is a Lindberg model I picked up at ollies cause it was cheap and they were having a buy out sale like they do for everything. The air filters are different then in the pics now, I put stacks on them. I'll take a couple pics later, plan on doing some work on it this evening. Sorry for all the blabbin I did it again lol... i'll get to it...
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Oh boy... looks like I need to learn how to attach my pics better on this thing. And sorry for the poor pic quality I dont have a camera and my phone really stinks at it. I'll have to find one to use/ borrow till I get one. And as always constructive criticism is welcome.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks Luis I appreciate it I have a little more done here. I finished the wheels, didnt like the way they were so I got out the dremel and ground down the centers and used chrome caps that I didnt use on my 32 monogram street rod kit. The white walls and all are hand painted (no extra scratch to buy any if they are made for these) I just used some pin stripe tape found in the plane section of hobby works and stretched and curved it around the tire.... I cut and glued the stacks (eyelets from michaels) on the carbs.... Also got another coat of paint on the body, I brushed it on cause I couldnt find the 'sea blue flat' in a spray, so I figured i'd try the toothpaste rub I read about a couple people doing on here and so far so good.... ummmmm.... oh, got my radiator and headlights sprayed with metallic, not sure if the headlights will stay that way though and the radiator fins i'll probably paint black, forgot to take pics of it though i will later on tonight.... k so here is some pics.... Thanks for looking ok so it's not letting me attach my pics ,cause they are to big' although they are no bigger then the other ones i uploaded before. go figure... geesh idk i'm not in the mood to figure this out right now nor find a place to host pics and try that, lifes been like that past couple days what can i say lol.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 k here we go. still not the way everyone elses is so it makes it easier to view, but i'll get there. once again thanks for looking.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks alot Paul I appreciate it. Your wheels look great, the whole model looks great actually, thanks for posting it. When yur making your templates are you laying the rim itself down on something and then tracing and around it and cutting something out? Oh on rims and tires like that they are not seperate so I guess I could measure it out and use a ummm what are they called (one end has a point and the other you put a pencil in and make your circle)? lol I cant believe I forget what theyre called. Thats the only idea I have of making a template so far. I cant wait to get an airbrush, i'm brushing and rattle can right now, which is fine but I think an airbrush could add a whole lot and take up the fun factor. Got a little more done to the T. Only have very little rubbing of toothpaste left. While I was at it trying something new like that I figured why not try what I see most people refer to as "the tank" for a model I had abandoned a while back. And wouldn't ya know it, it worked! So i'm gonna post some pics of that one today too. It's a 1932 Chevy Truck also in 1/32 scale. After these 2 I have a 67 chevelle that I also had to stick in "the tank". Unfortunately it didnt come out of the tank in as good of shape as the 32 truck. Mainly cause I got frustrated being my second paint job in a row messed up and went a little cracy with my dremel and a few attachments. So there will be some tlc (filler/bondo) involed with that one. Lets get to some pics. Gonna post some now and then i'm gonna post some later tonight to, cause there WILL be molding building time worked into my day today. It's my birthday today and i'll throw a fit if that doesnt happen... I mean it... i'll do it... Oh Yeah... How are you attaching your files/pics? It only lets me attach so many and then I have only figured out that I have to delete some of what i've already uploaded to add more.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 32 chevy truck fresh out of tank and painted.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 Paul your awesome thank you very much. I'm definately looking for the circle template. Hopefully ill get a airbrush sooner rather then later. Where did you get it btw (circle template)? Only looked at a couple different places so far, and that was cause I happened to be there for something else, walmart and some where else I forget. Oh, and I got photobucket going so i'm gonna give that a try with this post. I appreciate all your help and encouragement. I'm down to a couple things before I do final assembly. One being the radiator/grill, think I got it where I want it paint wise and am gonna install the lights in it tomorrow. The other being the headers, which are pitching me a fit. Was gonna do these things I found at michaels that are for making jewelry with but it didnt work out. I thought for sure it was so I did all this prep grinding one side down and drilled holes in the block so I could have a piece of wire connecting the two. But when I put the one side on I realized they were WAY to big for a 1/32 size engine LOL... So I went looking for the set of headers that came with the kit, they kinda look like stacks for carbs, and I only found three. And that was enough I guess. So I racked my brain to try and think of what to use to make them with and ended up walking through Dollar buy and bought a couple things to try and mess with and see what I can come up with. One being floral wire and the other being sandwich toothpicks (a bit bigger then regular ones) and I had no idea they sold toothpics specifically for sandwich's like that, go figure. But anyway I took some pics of what I was coming up with so far with the floral wire. Still working on it and trying to come up with different ideas for working with the two materials I have. So as always encouragement and constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks for looking! And here we go... i'm gonna post the pics I had deleted and all before too... this is what I was originally gonna use for headers And this is what i'm up to now radiator/grill
LAone Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 got some good progress ron. did great on those white walls. tip on picture taking. when shooting up close, use macro feature. well thats if your camera has it. it has a little flower as the symbol on the button. most cameras have two choices, macro and super macro. you can get real close to the item and itll come out clear.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Thanks alot Luis I've actually been taking most of these with my cell phone, so im sorry for the poor quality. Hopefully in about a month ill be able to buy a camera, been meaning to anyway, the one I have broke a while back. Till then i'll see about borrowing one for when it's done and be sure to look for that button. I had another idea for the headers and had a little time to mess with it last night. Gonna try and get a jig going today for making them all at once. Cause trying to bend even just two seperately and get them to match is pretty difficult. Took a couple pics so you can get the idea. Thanks for looking!!
Mr.Zombie Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 What are the rear wheels please? They look absolutley awesome!
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 The way they sit in that paticular pic is the way they came with the kit. The kits a Lindberg 1925 Ford Model T Street Rod. They are all one piece. And although good looking, werent for me and this build so I did what I did to them. I bought it at Ollies for like 7 or 8 bucks. Ron
Nate Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Ron, a tip for your photos: try getting mote light on the object you're taking a photo of. Lighting is one of the most important parts of photo quality.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Nate, thanks for the tip... now if you'll excuse me I gotta go look up "mote" in the dictionary LOL
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 mote n. a small particle; a speck of dust... so im taking it minimum lighting is the key. thank you very much i'll def be trying that.
jbwelda Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 he meant *more* light, not less. more light allows you to close down the aperture for greater depth of field, especially important in macro setting. check your camera manual for "aperture priority" and use that setting and a tripod for long (longer than 1/30 second or so) exposures. you want depth of field to keep things in focus and the way to get it is with the tinest aperture setting (which is actually the largest number...eg: "8" is smaller than "4" etc). great work on the car so far even if the photos might be a bit fuzzy.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 ohhhhhh... my bad... Thank you for that, the extra tips, and kind words its appreciated.
GTMust Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I just re-read this thread more carefully and realized.... duh!..... that this is 1/32 scale! I have this kit in my stash somewhere, but never built it, thinking it would be typical Lindberg quality. (Hint.... start a topic about some of Lindberg's kits? Naw...... let it go...) Now I've seen your neat buildup, I think I'm going to dig it out and have a go at it. Thanks Ron. Tony
Nate Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Nate, thanks for the tip... now if you'll excuse me I gotta go look up "mote" in the dictionary LOL D'oh! I meant "more". Sorry about that.
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 My pleasure Tony, thanks man. And enjoy, i'd like to see what you do with it. Nate: it's all good dont worry about it. I got to add a new word to my vocabulary LOL
Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 Thank you for looking!! Not a whole whole lot of progress lately. Been mad busy and when I have sat down to work on these headers I have been back and forth on quite a few ideas. So after bending fitting and looking at different designs, I think i'm gonna go with the set i'm about to post pics of, I think, I could wake up later this morning and think other wise of course lol... Pics are still not up to par and I had a setting wrong and the pics kinda shrink the car and make it look funny. But hopefully it still gives off the idea im after. Dont mind the wheel camber and the seat or anything like that it's not final assembled yet so all thats a little off. First few pics are the few I took of the process ive been using for bending the pipes.
