What are some the things you guys use to strip chrome plating? I have to strip 6 semi wheels so I can paint them white. Any suggestions?

Dawn Power Dissolver, no harmful fumes, no need for gloves or a Haz Mat team, and will work in as little as three or four hours. Overnight and the chrome should fall off by itself by morning!

EDIT: It will removed the lacquer undercoat, too.

There's several things that will work. Bleach, oven cleaner, floor degreaser (Superclean, Purple Power), lye (the active ingredient in floor degreaser). I'm certain there's a few I missed.

i would if i needed to strip chrome which reminds me! ;) use a product called "wesleys bleche white" ... i think thats how its spelled! ... you can find it in any auto parts store i know advanced auto has it in stock here in town! and the great thing is once your done with it dont throw it away use ...get ready... mmmm "PANTYHOSE" :D;) you hold the hose over the bottle and use it as a filter to filter out the chrome and junk that you stripped off you parts and then you can reuse it over and over as many times as you like ... talk about recycleing! ;) ... sure it might be 5 or so dollars a bottle but hey the stuff almost last several years i think before you have to start looking at replaceing it! :D

Easy Off. It's fast, it's nasty, and you'll be snapping your rubber gloves off in 5-minutes. Oh, that burning cough goes away after a day or two.
