Sam Cates Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) I have a resin hood that came with my Revell Orange Crate kit and it is warped. Not too bad but the bottom needs to be spread apart because it won't fit over the firewall edge and the grille properly. Is it possible to fix it? Edited May 2, 2011 by metalmulisha20@live.com
Lunajammer Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Donnie is mostly right but I think I'll add something. I just had to do this over the weekend. I've tried in the past running the part under the hot tap, but my hot water is not set high and never got the results I wanted. I put a pan on the stove and heat until it's not quite boiling, then MOMENTARILY dip the part, shape, then cool in cold water. Looked great but the next day it had slightly sought it's warped shape again. It's close enough to use but just repeat if need be.
MikeMc Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) Wish Donnies post was still up...... :D I would make a form out of wood...square and smooth in the exact width you want. Dip the part into almost boiling water..200 degrees or so...then bring part out and set over base then pour cold water over both. DO NOT start waving, twisting or anthing but a smooth short move from heat to base...set it on, do not push and let it cool then pour cold water...this will reset the part. I have done this twice and have had success.I had 2 pickup boxes with a twist and this worked quite well, as i'm not a woodworker. Edited May 25, 2011 by Stasch
