So hello all to this wonderful forum, when i was a kid i built models like a madman, and now i have a 4 yr old son and my g/f works 3rd shift, so i decided to pick it up again. Ive been on and off for years, but ive been off for probably 5ish? Anyway i got an AMT 91 probe and all was goin well...til i got the bug i used to get...the 'RUSH IT' bug....i pulled a huge nono today that ive never tried but wont again, the flipup headlight tilted down a little when i reinforced it to the bumper with glue, the glue dried and pulled it down so it wasnt flush. I thought if i took a lighter very quickly and roasted the glue it would soften and i could bend it back, but instead it roasted the fine edges of the flipup cover, and also warped them, and now im extremely down for being so stupid. IVe never made scratchbuilt parts so i dont know what to do, if anyone can point me into the right direction for this fix ill be so happy, this is actually the car i drive IRL and the kit cost me 30$ on ebay and is 80% DONE...ty..btw i would attach pics but it keeps sayin no file was selected to upload, i dont know what the deal is there

I am not sure what the final result is to look like but if I am reading this correctly, could you not fill the 'hole' and sand everything flush and scribe any joints needed to match the other light mounting?

One suggestion would be to hit the LHS and check out the Evergreen/Plastruct section, take the old part with you (if you can) and find some sheet plastic about the same thickness, take it home and start cutting, good start at scratch building. Another option would be...I saw an old AMT Ford Probe kit at one of my LHS and I think it is running $10 or so, plus my discount, if you want, I could snag it if it is still there and send it to you. IF I can get it, all I ask is that you pay shipping (around $10) and it is yours...again that is, IF I can still find it. If that sounds like something you are interested in, shoot me a PM and I will head to the store Saturday and try to find it, if not, I know quite a few friends close by who would be willing to give one up. Let me know!

Yeah show us some pics. It'll help us help you.

BTW a plastic "For Sale" sign is only about $2.99, and available at almost every type of store. Good source of cheap sheet styrene there.

WOW a plastic forsale sign, thats awsome! Its might actually work, and also sam if you could grab that probe kit if you see it i would definately be interested in you shipping it, not only for the part i need but i would like to build a diorama vs my dads garage for this car...its a long story that involves wrecking my first PGT and getting a shell from 500 miles away and bringing it back to life, if i can ever figure out how to post pics on this site i can show you guys, its really neat. Its definately the most work ive done on a real car.

Welcome back to the hobby. Yeah, if you need to reinforce something w/ glue, that sends up red flags. Lots of builders use more than one type of glue. Try experimenting with superglue (it WILL glue your fingers together if not careful), and 2-part epoxy, which is my favorite. Two equal sized drops on a scrap, such as tin foil or whatever... stir it up with a toothpick. The "5 minute" stuff is workable for a 3 or 4 minutes, and holds so much better than plastic glue! Plus, if some epoxy gets where you don't want it, wait until it is semi cured, and peel it away with a toothpick. It's great for installing windows.

Hope some of this helps. We like to help!
