JTRACING Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 picked this up at the new drug store down the street here. for only 10 bucks! the kit is not bad but the parts have heavy mold lines and flash. quick mock up, all the engine chrome headlight etc will be re done with alclad. I've already alcladed the handle bars. heres the tin work painted up, candy red
JTRACING Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 good old fashion brush painting. I used badger air paint though it goes on so smooth ! then just cleared the whole rim chrome and all with krylon.
John Teresi Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Very nice!!!!!!.......I sure would like to pick up one of these kit`s for my self........look`s great so far........nice paint too!
seeker589 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) So far your build is very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished. The timing of this build is very appropriate. Some of you may know I build Harleys at the plant in York, PA. I worked on the Softail line. The reason I say worked is because as of today - we completed the build out of the 2011 Softail model line. In the next 2-3 months we will begin combining the Softail and Touring lines on one assembly line arrangement. It will be at the York facility - but it will be very different from previous build practices with a very firm focus on the bottom line. Today also marks the final build of the Springer style of front fork arrangement. Due to outsourcing and various questionable decisions of the current leadership - Harley will no longer manufacture the Springer - in or out-of house. The reason given was expense in fabrication and lack of an outside source willing to take on the liability at the cut rate cost Harley was willing to pay. I always thought the Springer was unique and respected H-D for continuing to make such a niche product as the Springer. Today - some more of the soul that was Harley-Davidson - died. Long live the Springer! Edited May 13, 2011 by seeker589
iBorg Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Tim: I so agree with you. With the V-rod and some of the import V-twins, its hard to say what makes a Harley distinctive. But the springer front end screamed HARLEY like nothing else in the world. Guess the 2011 will hold their value better than the 2012's. Mike
