jeffinvt Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I picked this up on E-Bay a few years ago and have always wanted to build it but was disappointed with the kit wheels. Finally this week I busted out the bow O' wheels and tried some stuff out. I ended up finding that the spokes from the Lindburg 34 Ford kit fit the stock tires from the Smer kit. The kit gives you wheel and tire halves and a clear plastic disk for the spokes. I left the wheel tire thing as is and added the 34 spokes and knock offs from a 64 Impala lowrider. Finding this combo gives me what I needed to build this kit. It is a simplified kit but I think it will be very nice when done. Here is the wheels and a quick mock up for those that have never seen this racer.
plasticbutcher Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I have all ways liked the racer, I look forward to seeing you're updates
sjordan2 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) I posted some info on this kit a while back, with somebody's build journal. He used Herb Deeks wire wheels. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal1/501-600/gal558_Talbot_Dalton/00.shtm You'll find more information on the bottom of this page and the one after it: http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/6477-1-8-gt40-mk1-ford-scratchbuilt-why-not-38.html Edited May 29, 2011 by sjordan2
jeffinvt Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 @ Sjordan: I had seen that as I was researching, but did not feel that the Deeks wheels were worth it seeing as the 34 wires fit so well. Although they really are nice pieces and look great on these old kits.
sjordan2 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Cool. The wheels you chose are certainly better than what's in the kit. If you didn't follow the other forum thread, I encourage you to do so because there are a couple of good (well, one of them's good) cutaway drawings, plus some really nice 1:1 links.
