Guest roadkill2525 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 After I finish building my 70 1/2 Camaro im moving on to two 1963 sleds. First is my 1963 Impala, im taking the engine from my 1969 Corvette kit and adding some Pegasus DZ's gold face rims with thin whitewalls. I might combine stuff from the 1965 Impala kit as well. Second is my dad's 1963 Imperial convertible kit, I tried building this back in 2001. Im going to strip it and paint it to be more accurate. I've got to fix the windshield frame and vent windows because they've broke over time. I've been considering getting the reissued 65 Continental or 63 Galaxie 500XL. I don't know to much about the land yachts from the early sixties and would like some ideas and tips on colors, styling, and detailing. This will be my first time using BMF for something of this era.
Guest zebm1 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hey Jairus, didn't yall do an article on Imperials a few issues back? 8) zeb ps; I have those instructions and a few parts but tha car has disappeared into tha mysteries of time...... ahhh tha ford windshields aren't tha same, especially tha "glass"
Jairus Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Nope, wasn't me. I try to do SketchPad articles about current subjects. Yeah, I know it is now a current subject but... kind of boring don't ya think? Ok, how about going the land yacht angle with a teak wood deck, railing, flying bridge and rope tiedowns. How about fender bumpers? :-) Well, then a second opinion would be Mrs. Hathaway's car from the Beverly Hillbillies. Pretty yellow convertible if I remember right. J
MrObsessive Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Michael, you can check out this site for some good references on '63 Imperials. Get ready for some serious time for BMF'ing..............You've got chrome trim on top of the fins, as well as around the wheelwells. For vent windows and a windshield frame, why not see if someone has a junker '59 Imperial they don't want? The recent reissue is out there, and someone may have the body they don't want. The '57-'66 windshield frames were all identical.
jbwelda Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 i love that "embassy" version. will manufacturers ever get back to this golden age? (i say that only half joking...i actually remember thinking all the extra stuff in this kit was pretty cool, even if i didnt use it).
Guest roadkill2525 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Does anyone make this stuff for the 63 Impala? I might also build the 65 Impala along with it, maybe as a wagon? Fender skirts Continental kit Dual aerials Got to get some ELO for the Imperial. For now im putting the muscle cars away.
Guest zebm1 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Well ifn MCM didn't do that articla.....then it must have been in SA.....nope it waz in MCMag. Now I'm worried, methinks Jairus is in tha opening stages of CRS, a precursor to Old Timer's Disease. Pages 16-21, Titled "Imperial Fleet" by Bill Coulter, Issue #114...same Magazine that has tha NNL East 2006 coverage. Check out tha magazine for some neat-o stock Imps Michael, yu'll see Bill's point about tha windshiled frames. zeb
Guest roadkill2525 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 The ELO cut right thru the old paint on the Imperial, going to do again to get the rest of it out. Any ideas on customizing the Imperial or should I stay with whats in the box?
Guest zebm1 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Do what yur heart says to yu Mike......Imperials were very Special cars, most were handbuilt, which is why they are so rare IMO. I've never seen a kustomized Imperial....wanna be one of tha first Mike. zeb
Deano Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I've never seen a kustomized Imperial zeb Ya haven't? Here, let me fix that fer ya! Granted, it's a mild custom. Just some light de-chroming, custom paint and rims, but it's what I would do if I had the means.
