Trucker_tim Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Hello, I have been out of modeling for a while, I had been doing them as a kid focusing mostly on the cars and such. But now that I have gotten back into them I have started out on the Big Rigs. Now my overall knowlege of them is pretty small but I am trying to put some extra detail in the Ford LNT Snow plow. I am also working on the transtar eagle 4300. I was wondering if anybody has some pics or good discriptions on how to plumb up the gas tanks and items like that. I know that the tanks have lines that run to each other then to a juncion box then to the back of the motor. I was also trying to figure out on the ford what the two little tanks are that sit under the battery box. Thanks for the information if you need me to state better what I am looking for let me know.
Ben Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 You pretty much have the right idea on the fuel lines. What you will usually find is that the fuel is drawn and returned from the same tank, usually on the drivers side and any other tanks are connected to that one using a hose the runs from the bottom of one tank to the bottom of the other. This way both tanks provide fuel in even amount. The little tanks under the battery box are air tanks for the air system of the truck, mainly used for the brakes.

Thanks Ben So would the line running from tank to tank then be mounted to the frame crossbars or just strung from side to side.
Ben Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Hey Tim, the hose or pipe that runs from one tank to the other has to run straight across. If it were to go up between the tanks, fuel would not transfer from the reserve tank to the main tank. I have seen steel pipe used between the tanks as well as rubber hose. Sometimes there is a steel "loop" that hangs down from the chassis and the line is hung along the bottom of this loop.
Aaronw Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The roads department at work has a Ford snow plow similar to the AMT kit. I took some photos today and posted them here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45511&st=0&gopid=484151& I hope these will be of some help for you.
Trucker_tim Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 That was really cool of you to do that thanks I am sure they will help out with my project
