mrm Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Hi, guys. I am really new on here and on my second stretch with the hobby. I gave it a rest for like ...8 years. The very first thing I did, when I decided to get back into the plastic kit building, was to go to a contest to "set my watch" as we say in Bulgaria (where I am originally from). What better place that the Heartland Nationals to do that? While there I found out that next years theme is going to be my favorite subject - '32 Ford. So I exploded with ideas and started choping a lot of stuff. I also bought my very first ever resin body. So here is going to be a thread from Hot Rod heaven. I have plans for everything- from rat rods, to traditional, to ultra modern. Hope you enjoy. Here are the current few Here is an easy take on the Phantom Vicky form AMT. It has Alluma Coupe wheels and some aftermarket interior bits, but other than that it is OOB. I liked playing with the idea of having a "billet rod" with barely any chrome on it. The whole thing was made to try the "new" one coat finishes from Testors. I am not very happy with them. This is a very standard 3 window coupe in green primer. I will stay this way and most likely receive the engine from the 5 window kit and the wheel/tire combo from the roadster kit. I have the vision in my head of its front bumper scraping the ground. 100% illegal in California and certifiably cool. This is going to be as Phantom as they get. A highboy woody convertible (vicky?)'32. I want it to be very modern, but with traditional styling. We'll see what happens... This is as wild as I can think of interpretation of a rod that started as '32 Tudor. I am even thinking of making it just as a slammer, so its one and only focal point is its outlandish design. This I just did last night. A 5 window, with original firewall from the AMT Vicky and quite a channel job. This is going to be as traditional as they get. Tri carbs, black with white firewall, chrome steelies with whitewalls and red interior. The body sell was cut out in the front and the panels thinned. Then a plastic strip was glued to make the little edge and then the firewall was glued. I think it looks convincing enough. This was not that easy, but I managed to meke the curvature of the inner fenders the same as the frame rails. The reason why it was not easy it because my smart a$$ first glued the inner fenders to the body and THEN decided to channel the body. My chopped '32 3 window. Have not decided yet what exactly will come out of it. Most likely a big engine and huge rear tires without fenders. and the only resin on my bench - a B400 that I bought at the show in Kansas. Honestly I expected more from that resin body. It needs a lot of cleaning. It is longer than other '32s, so it will create a nightmare with the top hood. But I had to have it. Again I have plans for a very smooth and modern rod, but looking very unaltered bod ywise. Any comments, critics and/suggestions are more than welcome. Just like everyone else I have my own favorite colors and styles, but it would be boring if I end up with 30 street rods in the same shades and building style. So please, any ideas are appreciated. And in case you are wondering, yes, I did mean I am planning on building about 30 Deuces. Edited June 19, 2011 by mrm

mrm Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Ha ha ha Thanks bandit, but I think that ZZ Top are doing just fine for now.
bandit1 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Ha ha ha Thanks bandit, but I think that ZZ Top are doing just fine for now. ah i think the zz top is a 33'! correct me if im wrong! but i think beach boys is alittle more accurate for this build!
mrm Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 ah i think the zz top is a 33'! correct me if im wrong! but i think beach boys is alittle more accurate for this build! You are absolutely correct about the eliminator. It is a '33. Now I may attract some criticism, but to me personally the Beach boys' little deuce is as much a deuce as their music is rock'n roll. To me personally ZZ Top are like the epitome of cool and a great background while working on Street Rods, while the BB (I respect them for what they are) are rather annoying after the third song. This is just me.

Frank Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hi mrm Looks like your taking on a big project there. I also have one of those B400 bodies, but I have been unable to work out what to use as a donor kit, they don't seem to fit either the AMT or Revell kits. Great looking rods so far will be watching these carefully.

Great looking rods so far will be watching these carefully. Thank you. These are not even half of my '32 projects..............unfortunately. As for the B400 I will "beat it" into submission, until it fits onto the fenders and frame of the Revell '32 three window.
mrm Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) The Tudor is probably my favorite Deuce. I am building few of them, at least four actually. So I decided to start with a Street rod that is as classic as possible, traditional, but yet somewhat modern. I don't think that anything in this world screams hot rod more than a '32 Ford with flames over black with classic five spoke Cragars. So......here is the paintjob after the unmasking. It needs some touching up and then it is getting a very wet top coat to seal it all. Edited June 23, 2011 by mrm
deathskull59 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 hey cool sedan. nice to it dosint have the bright colers and same old wire wheels it comes with. like most ive seen a lot. and revelle is remaking the 32 3 window kit again just dont know wen. it comes yet. so exspect to the same parts as the 5 window kit. and pic. shows its red with flames.

Thank you. This sedan is mostly a paint exercise. I think it is time for Revell to step out of the traditional route for once and offer something more modern. I am tired of the same tires used everywhere for example. same with the wheels. The wheel/tire combo in their roadster kit is the perfect ratio (size wise) front to rear. They can keep that tire mold and just try new wheel design. We are 2011 and although between the aftermarket and the different kit reissues, there is pretty much everything available for building traditional or nostalgia rods, but nothing for the modern taste. How about a cool IRS or a nice IFS for the fenderless builds. The only somewhat modern chassis out there is in the AMT's Phantom Vicky and it is actually what people would put on a full fendered rod. Revell's '26 T in all of its reissues has a nice setup of chrome Jaguar rear with quick change with a nice IFS, but it is not very well detailed and it is not on a Deuce frame. I can bet that if Revell builds a Deuce with that set up, but to the level of detail of their current '32 offerings, people would buy two/three of them, regardless of the body, just for the suspension. Or if they like to keep it traditional, at least offer I-beam axle and a quick change differential. Some new style interiors would be nice too. All of their '32 interiors are basically the same tuck'n roll. also I believe that offering at least one body style with a top chop wouldn't hurt their sales either.
mrm Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) How hard could it be to just give us this set up? Basically it is the old kit with a chopped top, different rear end and bars and a new set of wheels and tires. Edited June 26, 2011 by mrm
